A biography on one of the greatest and most powerful hitters in baseball history, Jimmie Foxx. The native of small-town Sudlersville, Maryland , Jimmie was already playing professionally by age 16. He turned down an athletic scholarship to the University of Maryland after being approached by Frank "Home Run" Baker who was managing the Class D Easton Farmers. Baker had played for the Philadelphia Athletics and the New York Yankees, ho both showed interest in Foxx; Connie Mack signed him for the Athletics with whom he would make his major league debut in 1925. By 1929, Foxx had become a feared power hitter and would amass 534 lifetime home runs (second only to Babe Ruth at the time) and a lifetime batting average of .325 over 20 seasons. He was traded form the A's to the Boston Red Sox in 1936. With the player shortage caused by World War 2, an aging Jimmie joined the Chicago Cubs in 1942 and 1944, and would conclude his career in 1945 back in Philadelphia but with the Phillies. Jimmie Foxx was a 3-time MVP, a 9-time All Star, won 2 batting titles and the Triple Crown in 1933. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951 and passed away in 1967 at age 59.…
