Après avoir situé Nostradamus dans son temps - la Renaissance -, livré le sens de sa recherche et les clefs de sa découverte, Roger Prévost part des quatrains les plus souvent cités des Centuries pour en lire tous les mots en donnant à ceux-ci la signification précise qu'ils avaient à l'époque. Les "prédictions" les plus connues - la mort d'Henri II, la fuiteà Varennes, la mort du pape, à Lyon, en 1986 ! - mais aussi des quatrains jusqu'ici non identifiés, comme la condamnation des Templiers, défilent ainsi de chapitre en chapitre. Chaque fois, on s'aperçoit vite que l'événement n'appartient pas, comme beaucoup l'ont cru et le croient encore, à l'avenir, mais au passé de Nostradamus, quelquefois même à un lointain passé.La méthode de lecture employée par l'auteur, non seulement permet d'échapper aux nombreux pièges tendus par cet humaniste, amateur d'énigmes et de mystère qu'était Nostradamus, mais elle conduit aussi à retrouver et à dater les événements évoqués dans ces quatrains grâce à un décodage des indices astrologiques, météorologiques et même "journalistiques" qui les jalonnent.
