ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 2008). 2008 1st edition. Large quarto (223 x 283mm). Ppxxii,326. Many colour plates of flies, colour and b/w plates and photographs, bibliography. Dark blue cloth, spine titled in gilt. Very good in dust-wrapper. Signed by the author. "Charts the history and development of flyfishing in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. [The author's] detailed research brings together the lives and backgrounds of many noted Derbyshire and Staffordshire fly-fishers for the first time in this comprehensive, but highly readable work; he discusses the evolution and features of local patterns, winging patterns and the notes and fly-dressings of noted angler-authors from the 18th and 19th centuries [as well as] anglers of influence up to the present day". Very well-illustrated with plates of flies from Aldam, Foster, Roger Woolley and other early writers and fly-tyers and with many two-page spreads of the flies of more recent Derbyshire flyfishers. Excellent historical sections on "Angler-authors of Derbyshire and Staffordshire" (Charles Cotton, W.H. Aldam, Alfred Ronalds, John Turton, William Shipley and David Foster), with lists of their fly-patterns, and "Anglers of influence"; Izaak Walton, T.C. Hofland, John Beever, James Ogden, the Marquess of Granby, William H. Foster, Edward Marston, Walter M. Gallichan, Gerald G.P. Heywood, Wilfred Louis Foster, A. Nelson Bromley, Roger Woolley, and present-day authorities; John Neville, Tony Bridgett, Steve Trigg, Steve Woolley, Tim Thorpe and Peter Arfield. Frontispiece and jacket paintings by Ashley Bryant. Many of the traditional flies were tied by Tim Thorpe and photographed by Terry Griffiths. A first-class and authoritative production of great value to the angling historian and also to the Derbyshire and Staffordshire fly-fisher and fly-tyer of today. .

Ppxxxvi,168. Full bound in red leather, bevelled edges, edges gilt, raised bands, mounted salmon fly inside front board. Fine in matching cloth and leather slipcase. Signed.* This edition is limited to 60 copies, 50 of which are numbered 1 - 50 and ten i - x. This is one of the copies numbered 1 - 50. The book is full-bound in red leather with bevelled edges, all edges gilt, in matching cloth and leather slip-case. End-papers are hand-marbled paper, with a salmon fly, The Judge, tied by Peter Kealey, presented in a sunken mount inside the front board. The limitation page is signed by editor E.J. Malone, fly-tyer Peter Kealey and book-binder Ken Smith. The diaries of John Macky, Inspector of Rivers to Lady Hamilton, owner of much of the River Bann. Macky occupied the post from 1787 onwards. In 1798 the estate changed hands and a new, and thoroughly crooked, bailiff was appointed over Macky's head. Macky's "fears for his own position kept him from speaking out to anyone but his diary, telling of the actions of an unscrupulous employee and his family." Includes much on the daily life of the area around the Bann and its inhabitants in the years 1791 to 1809, and a detailed historical sketch of the Irish Society which now owns the fisheries of the lower Bann. "'The Judge' is an old Bann pattern (ca1850) which was devised by William Doherty of Bushmills .a well-known tier for the river Bann and its tributaries. The fly was first recorded by Francis Francis in his Book on Angling (1867) as a fly for the river Bush." A splendid edition of a book which is both fascinating and an important part of Irish angling literature. .
