Early reprint of an important popular Hicksite tract attributed to Joseph Parrish, a Pennsylvania physician. The work, which went through at least nine editions between 1828 and 1890, "remained the most popular Hicksite reply to those outside the Society about the Orthodox charges of 'blasphemy and infidelity'" (Patricia D'Antonio, "Founding Friends" (2006), p. 214). The Hicksite rift was the first experienced by the Society of Friends, though here Parrish preached tolerance, stating that as a physician he would never attempt a deathbed conversion of a Catholic or Jew if a priest or rabbi would bring them succor.
