First Edition. First edition, 2 volumes 4to, pp. [5], vi-xvi, 517, [2]; viii, 510, [30]; engraved frontispiece portrait; original blue-gray paper-covered boards, cream paper shelfback, over which an early rebacking to match, manuscript titling on spine; the rebacking at the base of the spine on volume II is a little problematic, and while the bindings are soiled and worn, both volumes are sound and internally clean.
