Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This book was written during the American Reconstruction era as a direct response to a popular pamphlet by 'Ariel' (Buckner Payne). While Payne claimed that Black people were soulless 'beasts' who sneaked onto Noah's Ark, and other scholars like Drs. Young and Blackie offered counter-replies, Stephenson used his book to establish a specific racial hierarchy using both the Bible and geology. The Adamic Race is an 1868 historical book authored under the initials 'M.S.' by North Georgia geologist and mining engineer Matthew Fleming Stephenson. The book acts as a pseudoscientific and theological text that uses biblical interpretations and geological theories to argue for the 'pre-Adamite theory'-the concept that multiple distinct species of humans were created before Adam.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Conservation of Races by W. E. B. Du Bois is one of the foundational essays of African American intellectual history. Originally delivered as a speech before the American Negro Academy in 1897, this seminal work presents Du Bois's groundbreaking reflections on race, identity, and collective destiny. In this essay, Du Bois challenges simplistic notions of racial difference and argues that race, far from being a mere biological category, is a spiritual and cultural force that shapes the progress of civilization. He calls for the preservation-or 'conservation'-of the distinct gifts and contributions of African-descended peoples as essential to the advancement of humanity. Through his eloquent reasoning and moral clarity, Du Bois sets forth a vision of racial unity, self-determination, and intellectual pride that would inspire generations of Black thinkers and activists.A cornerstone of Pan-African and sociological thought, The Conservation of Races remains a vital text for understanding Du Bois's philosophy of race and his lifelong commitment to equality and cultural integrity.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Ebers Papyrus, also known as Papyrus Ebers, is an Egyptian medical papyrus of herbal knowledge dating to circa 1550 BC. Among the oldest and most important medical papyri of ancient Egypt, it was purchased at Luxor in the winter of 1873-74 by Georg Ebers. It is currently kept at the library of the University of Leipzig, in Germany. The Ebers Papyrus is written in hieratic Egyptian writing and represents the most extensive and best-preserved record of ancient Egyptian medicine known. The scroll contains some 700 magical formulas and folk remedies. It contains many incantations meant to turn away disease-causing demons and there is also evidence of a long tradition of empiricism. The papyrus contains a 'treatise on the heart'. It notes that the heart is the center of the blood supply, with vessels attached for every member of the body. Mental disorders are detailed in a chapter of the papyrus called the Book of Hearts. Disorders such as depression and dementia are covered. The descriptions of these disorders suggest that Egyptians conceived of mental and physical diseases in much the same way. The papyrus contains chapters on contraception, diagnosis of pregnancy and other gynecological matters, intestinal disease and parasites, eye and skin problems, dentistry and the surgical treatment of abscesses and tumors, bone-setting and burns. The 'channel theory' was prevalent at the time of writing of the Ebers papyrus; it suggested that unimpeded flow of bodily fluids is a prerequisite for good health. It may be a considered a precursor of ancient Greek humoral pathology and the subsequently established theory of the four humors, providing a historical connection between Ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and medieval medicine.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - In The Cultural Unity of Black Africa, Cheikh Anta Diop argues that African and European social systems emerged from different environmental conditions during classical antiquity, leading to two distinct 'cultural cradles': the Southern Cradle (Africa) and the Northern Cradle (Europe/Eurasia).The Two Cultural CradlesDiop's central thesis is that climate and environment dictated the divergent social evolutions of these regions:The Southern Cradle (Matriarchy): Originating in Africa, this system was shaped by agricultural abundance and settled life. It is characterized by:Matriarchy: Inheritance and lineage are traced through the mother.Social Values: Ethics centered on compassion, love, nurturing, and social cohesiveness rather than division.Holism: Diop argues this system produces a more holistic society that adheres to moral behavior. The Northern Cradle (Patriarchy): Originating in the harsh, nomadic environments of the Eurasian steppes, this system is defined by:Patriarchy: A male-dominated social structure where the family unit is prioritized over the state.Social Values: Characterized by violence, separation of the sexes, and a proclivity for 'deceit and destruction' driven by scarcity.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Thoughts on African Colonization is a powerful abolitionist essay by William Lloyd Garrison that delivers a direct and uncompromising critique of the nineteenth-century colonization movement. Written during a critical period in the American antislavery struggle, the work challenges the idea of relocating free Black Americans to Africa as a solution to racial injustice.Garrison exposes the moral contradictions and political motives behind colonization, arguing that it served to reinforce slavery rather than dismantle it. With clarity and moral urgency, he defends the rights of African Americans as citizens of the United States and condemns policies that sought to remove them instead of confronting systemic oppression.A foundational text in abolitionist literature, Thoughts on African Colonization reveals the ideological battles that shaped the antislavery movement and the fight for racial justice. It remains an essential public domain work for understanding the history of abolition, race relations, and moral activism in America. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Ancient and Modern Britons: A Retrospect (Volume 2), originally published in 1884 by David MacRitchie, deepens and expands upon the highly controversial ethno-historical theories introduced in his first volume. MacRitchie, a Scottish antiquarian and folklorist, argues that much of the early population of the British Isles consisted of dark-skinned, pre-Celtic, and non-Aryan aboriginal groups who were gradually absorbed into the modern population rather than being completely wiped out. While modern anthropology and genetics have largely discredited his racial models and linguistic leaps, the book remains an influential and frequently cited text within esoteric history, alternative nationalist theories, and Afrocentric historical frameworks. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Samantha Among the Colored Folks: My Ideas on the Race Problem by Marietta Holley is a bold and thought-provoking work that blends humor, social commentary, and moral reflection to explore America's racial tensions during the Reconstruction and post-Reconstruction eras. Written in Holley's distinctive satirical voice, this volume follows her popular character 'Samantha' as she confronts the complex realities of race, justice, and equality in the American South.Holley-often called 'the female Mark Twain'-uses her wit and empathy to question the hypocrisies of society, particularly those surrounding race, gender, and moral responsibility. Through Samantha's observations, Holley exposes the injustices faced by Black Americans while advocating for compassion, fairness, and human dignity. This public domain classic stands as an important early example of American social satire and a rare female-authored commentary on race relations at the turn of the 20th century.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Dom Casmurro is one of the most celebrated novels in world literature and a masterpiece of psychological fiction by Brazilian author Machado de Assis. Told through the reflective and deeply subjective voice of Bento Santiago-nicknamed 'Dom Casmurro'-the novel explores memory, jealousy, love, and the unreliability of personal truth. As Bento recounts his youth, his intense love for Capitu, and the events surrounding their marriage, he becomes increasingly obsessed with the suspicion that Capitu betrayed him with his closest friend. Yet the novel never offers definitive proof, leaving readers to question whether the betrayal truly occurred or existed only within Bento's troubled mind. This ambiguity has made Dom Casmurro one of the most debated novels in literary history.Set in 19th-century Rio de Janeiro, the novel is both a social portrait of Brazilian elite society and a profound examination of human psychology. With subtle irony, elegant prose, and narrative innovation far ahead of its time, Dom Casmurro stands as a timeless study of doubt, obsession, and the fragile nature of truth.…
