Illustrated with 4 engraved plates (1. Ogden's Improved Fly Vice, 2. the Peacock at Rowsley, 3. Cotton's Fishing House, and 4. Ogden's Folding Landing Net & Seat Basket). Dark olive cloth with gilt device & title on upper board. Original cloth slightly faded and used. Very good. First published in 1879, this book is a small milestone in the history of fly fishing, almost certainly produced by James Ogden himself. Ogden fished with his father in Derbyshire, later coming south to Cheltenham where he perfected a practical method of dry-fly fishing. In this trail-blazing book he proposes the separation between any-method fishing and fly fishing. The hub of this book is the description of Ogden's method with the floating fly, which he claims to have invented 40 years before his book was published. .
