Recently rebacked hard back binding in publisher's original full chestnut leather with new leather spine, the spine divided into six panels, black morocco lettered labels in the second and fourth, twin parallel line and tool details across the panels, elaborate gilt tools to the perimeters with floral gilt designs to the inside corners, blind diamond pattern to the sides, original end papers. 8vo. 9½'' x 6''. Contains Tissue-guarded portrait frontispiece, (lxxxiv), 434 pp. pp 1 begins 'Poems | Verses Written at Bath, On Finding the Heel of a Shoe, in 1748'. 23 line printed poem adhered to the verso rear paste down titled 'A Poem | Not published in his Works' first two lines reads: 'Doom'd as I am in solitude waste - The present moments and regret the past'. Spotting to the end papers, beyond which the text block is in clean condition, from the private library of H. J. ?
