In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. Number of Volumes: 3 Three volumes ONLY: volumes II, III, and IV. Ex-library; contains the bookplates, markings, stamps, and card pockets of Forbes Library, Northampton, Massachusetts. Half-calf binding with marbled boards in brown, pink, yellow, and blue. Spine has raised bands with gilt lettering on b…lack. The leather has deteriorated in multiple places, and is fragile. Catalog numbers have been taped to the spines. Interiors are tanned but in very good condition, without marginalia. Volume IV contains several illustrations originally printed with the books. This set of books, missing the first volume, contains information about rare works and early printed materials mainly from the 1500s and 1600s, including (when possible) size, length, printer, location of copies, editions, and short excerpts or descriptions of the works. In volumes II and III, the works chosen are arranged chronologically, with a table of contents arranged by subject, beginning with poetry. Volume IV contains four books: A Hundreth Good Pointes of Husbandrie by Thomas Tusser, 1557; The Paradise of Dainty Deuices, 1576 (with additions of 1580 and 1600); England's Helicon, 1614; and The Mirour for the Magistrates by John Higgins, 1587 (with additions from earlier and later editions). Sir Samuel Egerton Brydges (1762-1837) was an English writer and genealogist, mainly known as the editor of rare Elizabethan and 17th-century texts, notably Edward Phillips's critical miscellany Theatrum Poetarum and Robert Greene's autobiographical pamphlet Greenes Groatesworth of Witte. He also published some significant bibliographical work, including Censura Literaria and Restituta; or, Titles, Extracts, and Characters of Old Books in English Literature, Revived. Hardcover, good condition. II: 664 pages, III: 400 pages, IV: paginated by book, 683 pages, total 1747; octavo.
