Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Hardcover, 4.25" x 6.75. Bound in full leather presumably the original binding. A simple American 18th century binding, with spine label on black leather, quaintly mis-cut to off-square. Gold lettering. Spine cracked and dry, however. Covers bumped, scuffed and worn. Front cover attached by 2 cords only. First blank page loose. 19 page preface and life of the author by Samuel Johnson. 194 pages + 4 pages of ads. Pages toned from age, with spotty foxing. Binding tight, text block secure. An early US edition of Thomson's popular sentimental poem, notable chiefly for the Johnson essay. Boswell's Life of Johnson had been published only 4 years earlier, and the Johnson essay is akin to the Emerson blurb on Whitman's book Johnson lived in the first half of the 18th century. Seasons was first published in 1730 or thereabouts and enjoyed popularity throughout the century. It languishes now, however. A perfectly nice 18th century American imprint in original unrestored binding. No illustrations or engravings which were added in later editions.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Islandia had been without a High King for a generation. Eloy, the last High King, embarked upon a journey shrouded in mystery after a cryptic warning found from a long lost prophet promised a return of ancient dark forces. Eloy had placed the rule of Islandia and the five kingdoms in the hands of his closest friend, King Richard. After thirty years most have long since stopped looking for Eloy's return or the darkness foretold. Many under Richard's rule have grown discontent and jealous of his appointment. All hope for peace is lost and chaos reigns after the icy hand of an assassin takes the life of King Richard and plucks him from the throne. What now Will Prince Titus, Richard's son, have the strength to hold Islandia together, or will it descend into war over the High King's throne! The kingdom is divided by the sword as each must decide where their loyalties lie.

Text block edges are foxed.** PS2025.0219** 196 + 166 pages. 4 x 6 5/8 inches** A complete copy, bound in contemporary calf, with the two fold-out maps, of this History of the Americas by Richard Snowden (1753-1825). Intended to be a "cheap History of America, from its discovery, to its present state of civilization and importance," readily available to a widespread reading audience, it nevertheless made use of the foremost authorities of the turn of the 19th century.** Scarce in commerce, the second edition of Snowden's History of the Americas provides background on Columbus and the early European explorers, and gives a history of the Western Hemisphere up through the American Revolution. Leaves show the usual darkening and some foxing, with an 1819 owner's inscription on the title page. Two volumes bound in one.** The fold-out map of North America is taken "from Arrowsmiths Large Map." Aaron Arrowsmith (1750-1823) founded one of the leading London map publishing houses in the early part of the nineteenth century. His role in cartographic production was to gather the best information available from a wide variety of sources, weigh the relative merits of conflicting data, and compile from this the most accurate depiction possible of an area.** The map of South America, bound in between Volume 1 and 2 of the text, was engraved by Wm. Kneass after authorities Olmadilla and Malespina. First published ca. 1800, it has been described as an "ambitious small map," generally very accurate, with its depictions of the river systems, some mountains and the names of many regions.** Second edition.
