The title page indicates that the volume also includes 'Journey from this World to the Next' (also by Henry Fielding) but it does not and nor does it appear ever to have done so. iv, 10-305, [i], iv, 184, iv pages, with five full page engraved illustrations and containing brief critical analyses of each work by William Mudford. Half bound in leather over marbled boards, gilt titles and decoration to spine (boards worn, a little scratched on surface and rubbed a corners and spine joints). Marbled endpapers, upper text block edge gilded (and now tarnished). Internally neat, clean and tight barring some occasional mild spotting and fingering, and strain in gutter at base of title page spread. Rebound in black tooled calf, over marbled boards, with gilt decoration and titling to spine, decorative bookplate to front pastedown, a tipped-in contemporary letter to the front pastedown, referring to Kendall. The dedication page and the preface are absent, a previous owner having inserted loose copies of same. Condition is very good with some isolated spotting and age toning to edges. It is a humourous publication. The first volume 1878 - 79 starts with issue No 2 Saturday April 13 1878 and the last volume ends with the issue dated 31st December 1881. The format changes throughout with issue numbers being droped and just the publication date continuing at the rear of each issue. At the start there are volume numbers, no I but II, III, & IV. There is no V but there is a VI with the dates and issue numbers running continuously from Vol IV to Vol VI At the back of Volume 3 are 3 issues of The Jester. Rare.
