The outlines are precisely delineated by thin brushes, no stencils or any other devises are used to keep sharp delineation of the hard-edged forms. Batu is a highly disciplined painter who observes the well-established techniques and rules of the medium - while doing so she is achieving exquisite results. She is also a keen observer of the earlier artistic traditions, such as vibrant colors and clear definition of compositional elements. While focusing on the illusions between the visible and the known, Chats with Mouth Shut highlights the stratification processes and time lapses in the artists oeuvres. The depth of Kaplan's works is correlated with the phases of the production process. It is possible to see countless layers on the canvas, where restarting with the quest to find the unexperimented, self-questioning and coincidences meet with colors. The search for freedom, thrusted by lines, color successions and brush strokes, ends at a point when nothing else can be added or changed anymore. Following her inaugural show in Istanbul in 2013, Haymatlos presents works that generate a dialogue between Germany and Turkey through the concept of "heimatlos": statelessness. Kneffel's paintings pry about the past to reveal how remembering penetrates its foreignness by transforming it, leaving peculiar traces or by adding and removing elements from it. Kneffel's curious look delivers the illusion of living spaces that actually consist of latent, uncanny absences. Through the use of overlapping intricate details from past and present of the artist's archive of found and taken photographs, a closed-circuit world with elements interconnected appear. Seemingly realistic, the paintings obey no photographic logic of perspective and space but are constructed with deliberately added layers of illusory details. The viewers are warned not to believe in what they see in the paintings. The things you see may mislead you. The paintings may tell lies; whilst they seem like they are constructing narratives with an obsessive commitment to details, they become unreliable narrators. This is a reminiscent of Mimesis. Zustand: New. Dirimart is pleased to announce Franz Ackermann's solo exhibition at the gallery, Come On! Ackermann, known for his passionate paintings and installations dealing with themes of travel, tourism, globalization, and urban life, is bringing together landscapes from cities that he spent extensive periods of time during the last three years at Dirimart Dolapdere, The artist transforms these cities, ranging from Miami to Istanbul to Mumbai, by analyzing the dramatic changes they undergo and translating his mental experiences of them into small-scale watercolors, large-scale oil paintings, and vast murals by thus becoming part of urban textures, he opens up areas to construct new spaces for himself. Ackermann describes this new space that is surrounded by images void of people as public space, inviting viewers in to complement the cities he painted to become a fundamental element of the exhibition and to reiterate the strong connection between the gallery space and the outside. Franz Ackermann began his first long-term series, Mental Maps in 1991 during a trip to Hong Kong. The watercolors in the exhibition are a part of Ackermann's first long term and ongoing series, Mental Maps which emerged. The artist combined the sensibility of traditional street maps to directly reflect reality with his interpretation of the region, seemingly documenting his perceptions of important cities in Asia, South America, and Australia. Later on, Ackermann designed large-scale, dynamic installations including paintings, drawings, photographs, wall drawings, sculptures, and bulletin boards, constructed through bringing together separate, individual elements. With his works, he aims to reveal the two facades of tourism; on the one hand is the appeal of the rapid, international travel consumption culture, while on the other hand is the cultural degradation, architectural marks left behind. His installations often appear to resemble the strange advertisements designed for the cultural tourism industry. While the spaces that he describes do not appear unique, they are also extremely familiarnon-existent spaces in which the traveling tourist's desire replaces the local culture. His latest works on craft paper will meet the audience at the artist's first exhibition at Dirimart Dolapdere. A comprehensive artist book covering Öztekin's production since 2009 accompanies the exhibition. Güclü Öztekin uses found objects as raw material and describes his paintings as a kind of recycling. He refuses stereotypes; instead of explaining his production process, it's enough for him to say they are plain and simple. His artistic practice can be seen as a realm where division between art and life disappears, a practice as an extension of daily life, beyond descriptions. "I do not work to paint, I do work to make the space work. The space creates the painting," he says. According to him, his paintings are very clear, simple, corporal, and ordinary. In the first part, Ileri follows the traces of autobiographic elements in Sarkis' works by contemplating on communication channels which the artist, consciously or intuitively, establishes in various areas such as literature, philosophy, and music. Sources of Sarkis' oevre foster with Sarkis' interpretations. Apparently, he fearlessly reaches forth his hand into all these 'twinkles' and indiscriminately touches them, with the curiosity of a child: either Paradjanov, Tarkovsky, Sevim Burak, or Aliye Berger, or John Cage, Edvard Munch, or the big master of music Johann Sebastian Bach, or an ordinary encounter that momentarily breaks off from the flux of daily life and involved in the perception universe of Sarkis. The second part presents an inventory of Sarkis' works and exhibitions created and realised here, in Istanbul, his city of birth and youth, since 1960 until now. In the section giving a chronological list of exhibitions, we see that Sarkis held a couple of solo exhibitions and participated in some group shows in Istanbul, before he moved to Paris in 1964. His real hit takes place in 1986 with the Caylak Street exhibition held at the Macka Art Gallery. We observe that, after this turning point of Turkey's art milieu, this 'event' that is considered to be a milestone, Sarkis helds exhibitions in Istanbul more frequently, participates in more activities, is at the centre of debates, and continues his artistic struggle uncompromisingly, until today.
