Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - THE GREAT GATSBY is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quixotic passion and obsession for the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan. Considered to be Fitzgerald's magnum opus, The Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream. Fitzgerald-inspired by the parties he had attended while visiting Long Island's north shore-began planning the novel in 1923, desiring to produce, in his words, 'something new-something extraordinary and beautiful and simple and intricately patterned.' Progress was slow, with Fitzgerald completing his first draft following a move to the French Riviera in 1924. His editor, Maxwell Perkins, felt the book was vague and persuaded the author to revise over the next winter. Fitzgerald was repeatedly ambivalent about the book's title and he considered a variety of alternatives, including titles that referenced the Roman character Trimalchio; the title he was last documented to have desired was Under the Red, White, and Blue. In its first year, the book sold only 20,000 copies. Fitzgerald died in 1940, believing himself to be a failure and his work forgotten. However, the novel experienced a revival during World War II, and became a part of American high school curricula and numerous stage and film adaptations in the following decades. Today, The Great Gatsby is widely considered to be a literary classic and a contender for the title 'Great American Novel'. In 1998, the Modern Library editorial board voted it the 20th century's best American novel and second best English-language novel of the same time period.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - MEDITATIONS (Medieval Greek: Ta eis heauton, literally 'to himself') is a series of personal writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD, recording his private notes to himself and ideas on Stoic philosophy. Marcus Aurelius wrote the 12 books of the Meditations in Koine Greek as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement. It is possible that large portions of the work were written at Sirmium, where he spent much time planning military campaigns from 170 to 180. Some of it was written while he was positioned at Aquincum on campaign in Pannonia, because internal notes tell us that the first book was written when he was campaigning against the Quadi on the river Granova (modern-day Hron) and the second book was written at Carnuntum. It is unlikely that Marcus Aurelius ever intended the writings to be published and the work has no official title, so 'Meditations' is one of several titles commonly assigned to the collection. These writings take the form of quotations varying in length from one sentence to long paragraphs.'.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Tenniel, Sir John (illustrator). Neuware - ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. Its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre. Dodgson's tale was published in 1865 as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by 'Lewis Carroll' with illustrations by John Tenniel. The first print run of 2,000 was held back because Tenniel objected to the print quality. A new edition was quickly printed, released in December of the same year but carrying an 1866 date. The entire print run sold out quickly. Alice was a publishing sensation, beloved by children and adults alike. Among its first avid readers were Queen Victoria and the young Oscar Wilde. The book has never been out of print. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has been translated into at least 174 languages. There have now been over a hundred English-language editions of the book, as well as countless adaptations in other media, especially theatre and film.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Bedford, F D (illustrator). Neuware - Now published by Wisehouse Classics, this is the unabridged Anniversary Edition of the original 1911 published novel 'Peter and Wendy' (or 'Peter Pan') with the original therteen illustrations by F. D. Bedford.'Peter and Wendy' or 'Peter Pan' is J. M. Barrie's most famous work, in the form of a 1904 play and a 1911 novel. Both versions tell the story of Peter Pan, a mischievous yet innocent little boy who can fly, and has many adventures on the island of Neverland that is inhabited by mermaids, fairies, Native Americans and pirates. The Peter Pan stories also involve the characters Wendy Darling and her two brothers, Peter's fairy Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, and the pirate Captain Hook. The play and novel were inspired by Barrie's friendship with the Llewelyn Davies family. Barrie continued to revise the play for years after its debut until publication of the play script in 1928. The play debuted in London on 27 December 1904 with Nina Boucicault, daughter of playwright Dion Boucicault, in the title role. A Broadway production was mounted in 1905 starring Maude Adams. It was later revived with such actresses as Marilyn Miller and Eva Le Gallienne. The play has since been adapted as a pantomime, stage musical, a television special, and several films, including a 1924 silent film, the 1953 Disney animated film, and a 2003 live action production. In the U.S., the original version has also been supplanted in popularity by the 1954 musical version, which became popular on television. The novel was first published in 1911 by Hodder & Stoughton in the United Kingdom, and Charles Scribner's Sons in the United States. The original book contains a frontispiece and 11 half-tone plates by artist F. D. Bedford. The novel was first abridged by May Byron in 1915, with Barrie's permission, and published under the title Peter Pan and Wendy, the first time this form was used. This version was later illustrated by Mabel Lucie Attwell in 1921. In 1929, Barrie gave the copyright of the Peter Pan works to Great Ormond Street Hospital, a children's hospital in London.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Widely regarded as Sadegh Hedayat's masterpiece, the Blind Owl is the most important work of literature to come out of Iran in the past century. On the surface this work seems to be a tale of doomed love, but with the turning of each page basic facts become obscure and the reader soon realizes this book is much more than a love story. Although the Blind Owl has been compared to the works of the Kafka, Rilke and Poe, this work defies categorization. Lescot's French translation made the Blind Owl world-famous, while D.P. Costello's English translation made it largely accessible. Sadly, this work has yet to find its way into the English pantheon of Classics. This 75th anniversary edition, translated by award-winning writer Naveed Noori and published in conjunction with the Hedayat Foundation, aims to change this and is notable for a number of firsts: \*The only translation endorsed by the Sadegh Hedayat Foundation \*The first translation to use the definitive Bombay edition (Hedayat's handwritten text) \*The only available English translation by a native Persian and English speaker \*The preface includes a detailed textual analysis of the Blind Owl Finally, by largely preserving the spirit as well as the structure of Hedayat's writing, this edition brings the English reader into the world of the Hedayat's Blind Owl as never before. Extensive footnotes (explaining Persian words, phrases, and customs ignored in previous translations) provide deeper understanding of this work for both the causal reader and the serious student of literature.'.There are indeed marked differences between Costello's and Noori's translations. As Noori indicates, his attempt to preserve the overabundance of dashes gives the reader a more immediate sense of the narrator's agitation. The first sentence flows on in Noori's translation, piling sensation upon sensation never allowing us to pause and catch our breath or separate out the images from the sensations. In his discussion of the relationship between his translation and Costello's, Noori also draws on translation theory and sees Costello's focus on the fluidity of the text in English as a 'domestication' of Hedayat's original. Noori's new English translation and his preface are a welcome addition and will no doubt draw the attention of scholars interested in Hedayat's works. The close textual and comparative analysis of the type Noori offers marks a new and long-overdue critical approach to the translation of the most celebrated work of modern Persian prose.' -Professor Nasrin Rahimieh in Middle Eastern Literatures.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Winner of the Greece's Eyelands International Poetry Book Award'When a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome, Neal Hall was stopped at gunpoint by a member of the Italian special forces. His offense: being black while walking about in an affluent white district. The soldier profiled him as an illegal African alien. By chance, the colorcoded indignity fell on the Ides of March, the day Caesar was assassinated. This coincidence inspired Hall to take a deep dive into Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. Thought the first of its kind, the hybrid poetic narratives emerging from this exploration interweave Shakespearean tools with those of Hall's own craft and speak in direct, powerful new ways to universal contemporary issues of freedom and equality. The poems, by providing new prisms through which to view today's power constructs, challenge the reader to recognize the coded and decoded socio-political-economic struggles of marginalized people today and to question for whom liberty's bell truly tolls.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This is the complete and authoritative edition of the folk and fairy tales of the brothers Grimm, with 212 tales, and including the tale of The Starving Children (which was removed after the 1819 edition). THE FOLK & FAIRY TALES OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM (German: Kinder- und Hausmarchen - Vollstamdige Ausgabe) is a collection of German fairy tales first published in 1812 by the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. The collection is commonly known in English as Grimm's Fairy Tales. The work of the Brothers Grimm influenced other collectors, both inspiring them to collect tales and leading them to similarly believe, in a spirit of romantic nationalism, that the fairy tales of a country were particularly representative of it, to the neglect of cross-cultural influence. Among those influenced were the Russian Alexander Afanasyev, the Norwegians Peter Christen Asbjornsen and Jorgen Moe, the English Joseph Jacobs, and Jeremiah Curtin, an American who collected Irish tales. There was not always a pleased reaction to their collection. Joseph Jacobs was in part inspired by his complaint that English children did not read English fairy tales; in his own words, 'What Perrault began, the Grimms completed.''.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Papyrus of Ani is a papyrus manuscript with cursive hieroglyphs and illustrations created c. 1250 BCE, in the 19th dynasty of the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt. Egyptians compiled an individualized book for certain people upon their death, called the Book of Going Forth by Day, more commonly known as the Book of the Dead, typically containing declarations and spells to help the deceased in their afterlife. The Papyrus of Ani is the manuscript compiled for the Theban scribe Ani.It was stolen from an Egyptian government storeroom in 1888 by Sir E. A. Wallis Budge, as described in his two-volume By Nile and Tigris, for the collection of the British Museum where it remains today. Before shipping the manuscript to England, Budge cut the seventy-eight foot scroll into thirty-seven sheets of nearly equal size, damaging the scroll's integrity at a time when technology had not yet allowed the pieces to be put back together. This Papyrus of Ani, a full version of the Theban recension, is presented here by Dr. Budge, who later became perhaps the world's most renowned Egyptologist. Reproduced in full are a clear copy of the Egyptian hieroglyphs, an interlinear transliteration of their sounds (as reconstructed), a word-for-word translation, and separately a complete smooth translation. All this is preceded by an introduction of more than 150 pages. As a result of this multiple apparatus the reader has a unique opportunity to savor all aspects of the Book of the Dead, or as it is otherwise known, The Book of the Great Awakening.

Buch. Zustand: Neu.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - After Arvand's death, Sayeh (Atrisa) sells the country house and moves to Arvand's small flat in one of the western parts of Stockholm. Sayeh's love for his wife does not end with her death. On the contrary, it appears that death is the beginning of thinking and reflection, the beginning of being freed from oneself and from one's intellectual cocoons. In other words, Sayeh's love for his wife is one of his inner levers, which poetically expresses all his hopes and disappointments and becomes the cause of his movement and dynamism.

Buch. Zustand: Neu.

The original re-reading of this work was published in 2020 by Minou Nosrat and Rabab Moheb by Iran Open Publishing in Sweden. The purpose of the authors in writing this book was not to present a critique in the context of the common tradition of the time, but to try to broaden the view on the narrative by asking significant questions and unveiling what has been written by the narrator 'between the lines'. Hence, 'Forbidden Areas with Seven Pens and a King Key' presents a distinguished reading and analysis of the story of Amir Arsalan Ibn Malekshah Rumi, citing the lithographic version of the early 20th century by Seyyed Hossein al-Shahshahan.

In this interwoven narrative, Moheb points out that the literature of migration does not merely express a certain state of the individual migrant's feelings, but rather a plan that pushes into a labyrinth of thoughts and emotions of immigrants. This labyrinth is of colored shapes and spaces, which these people have been willingly or unwillingly chosen for life. The immigrant is a human being lost in a net of strange of unfamiliar sounds. In this novel, own experiences and narratives have been a rich source for the author.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Out of the Circle' begins with a simplistic look at poetry and poets. The protagonist, who in her mind saw the poet as a prophetic human being, after meeting the poets living in Sweden, all his beliefs and mentality towards poetry and poets collapsed. The story of 'Out of the Circle' is indeed a qualitative critique of the literary community. Using bittersweet humour, the author tries to flip the narcissistic body of poets and writers while tickling the mind of the reader. 'Out of the Circle' is the first volume of a trilogy. The next two volumes are dedicated to the role of the cyber world in the literary community and the relations of poets and writers inside and outside the country.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This volume presents the collected poems of the Iranian poet Robab Moheb from 1994-2020. Moheb was born 1953 in the southeast of Iran (Ahvaz) next to the Iran/Iraq border. After finalizing secondary school, she studied sociology at the University of Teheran. In 1992, Robab Moheb, left Iran for Swedish Exile, where she lives until today. She was engaged as a teacher in Stockholm, where she received in 2004 her Bachelor in Pedagogical Sciences from the University of Växjö and her Master's degree from the University of Stockholm. As a poet, Robab began her work in early teenage times but hiding her works from her family and her father, who strictly prohibited her to write due to their own conservative ideals and beliefs. Hence, her first collection of short stories, which was written for teenagers, was published undercover by the pseudonym Golnar Moheb (1979 Negah Publishing Tehran/Iran). Since early childhood, she has been dedicated to painting and to 'the joy of the game of colours' - as she herself comments: Her paintings are not reflections of the outside world, moreover, in her world of colours and shapes, each mental process matures to a specific level of excellence, and each mental flow then manifolds itself. Robab Moheb says about herself and her work 'I land from poetry to painting and from painting to poetry, but none of them, I live myself, neither a poet nor a painter, I solely 'think' through colours and words' In March 2000 Robab opened her first exhibition of paintings in Sundbyberg, which was titled 'Woman'.
