Soft cover. Zustand: As New. Hidden Women are women about whom we know nothing, or very little, so they are shades or shadows in the life of Jung Bahadur Rana who founded the Rana dynasty that ruled Nepal for 104 years. Nothing is written about the women in his life except that against his wishes they committed sati when he was cremated. Strong and independent women, they had influence on him, enjoyed a prominent place in his life, and ironically the one he admired most tried to kill him. It is a novel look at his story, worn out by many Nepali writers, as it is the first time being told through the eyes of the women in his life. Thoroughly researched, Greta Rana builds together a feasible picture of how women lived and thought, hoped and died in a restrictive feudal society.…

Soft cover. Zustand: New. In today's India, two words can end careers, ignite mobs, and silence debate: "hurt sentiments." But when did questioning become a crime? And how did a civilisation that once celebrated fearless philosophical debate become a society walking on eggshells? In Blasphemy: Let Me Speak, Kushal Mehra takes on one of the most contentious issues of our time the idea of blasphemy itself. Drawing from history, philosophy, law, and contemporary politics, Mehra argues that the very notion of blasphemy is fundamentally alien to India's indigenous intellectual traditions. For millennia, Indian thought thrived on argument, scepticism, and dissent from the audacious materialism of the Cārvākas to the pluralism of the dharmic darśanas. Questioning was not punished; it was celebrated. So how did a culture of open inquiry transform into a culture of outrage? Through a sharp and provocative analysis, this book traces the historical roots of blasphemy, its entry into India's legal framework under colonial rule, and its modern use as a tool to silence free speech. Examining landmark legal cases, religious sensitivities, and the growing climate of censorship, Mehra confronts a difficult question: Can a society truly progress if its ideas cannot be challenged? Bold, unapologetic, and intellectually fearless, Blasphemy: Let Me Speak is not an attack on faith it is a defence of freedom. It is a call to reclaim India's ancient spirit of debate, where ideas were tested through dialogue, not suppressed through intimidation. Because a civilisation that stops questioning eventually stops thinking.…

Soft cover. Zustand: New. Did you know that a little-known Panchala prince, Yudhamanyu, single-handedly defeated the great Duryodhana? Or that Shakuni was a valiant warrior on the battlefield? How did Iravan, the son of Arjuna by Naga Princess Ulupi, rout the whole Gandhara armies al by himself? And how did the ageing king Bhagadatta, perched on his famed elephant Supratika, defeat a whole army of the Pandavas led by Bhima? Loyal. Valiant. Steadfast. They were all that and more. They secured crucial victories. They were indispensable. And yet, they were forgotten. Unsung Valour: The Forgotten Warriors of the Kurukshetra War is an attempt by ten writers to bring forth those forgotten warriors of the Mahabharata. Reimagined with passion and devotion, each story brings you a new perspective of the epic as each warrior gears up for his big day on the battlefield. In this epic battle, they are all related by either blood or loyalty. These stories capture the poignance, valour, unsung victories and eventual destinies of the warriors. This is a magnificent attempt to explore the epic in dimensions that have not been explored yet.…

Soft cover. Zustand: New. For centuries, a tiny, unknown kingdom tucked away inside the abdomen of a dense forest in the Vindhyas lay hidden—silent, self-contained, untouched. But in the early 17th century, that silence is shattered. Without warning, the mighty Mughal Empire casts its shadow over this remote land, threatening its very existence. Jahangir's Messenger unfolds at this critical turning point in history. The tale races through a world of shifting power and peril, where palace intrigues brew, secrets stir within the Mughal harem, and politics take deadly turns. Every corner of this richly imagined landscape is steeped in the textures of its time—its laws, its violence, its ambitions, and its betrayals. Yet beneath the grandeur and conflict lies the human heart. Love and lust, tyranny and courage, avarice and idealism—these forces collide in a sweeping narrative that delves into the raw truths of a civilization at war with itself.…

Soft cover. Zustand: New. At dawn of the Bengal Renaissance, Chandranath Basu wrote the first full-length work titled Hindutva. Published in 1892—three decades before Savarkar's eponymous political manifesto—this forgotten masterpiece offers a profoundly distinct vision of a rooted civilization. Here, Hindutva is neither a political creed nor a form of territorial nationalism. It is the living soul-force of an ancient, boundless civilization: the radiant essence of Sanatana Dharma itself. Basu presents Hindutva as the natural, indigenous term for the eternal way of the Hindus, boldly discarding the colonial label 'Hinduism'. Far from being exclusionary and reactive, Basu's Hindutva celebrates the unparalleled spiritual depth, aesthetic splendour, and inclusive genius of Hindu civilization—its unique power to harmonize opposites, embrace unity in diversity, and touch the infinite. It is a triumphant song of cultural self-assertion written amid colonial denigration to re-root and re-Hinduize a society drifting away under the onslaught of anti-Hindu theologies and ideologies. This first complete English translation restores Chandranath Basu's original, deeply religious, and non-political Hindutva to the world, reclaiming the term from later appropriations and returning it to its pristine truth: Hindutva is Sanatana Dharma. Nothing less, nothing else. …

Soft cover. Zustand: New. Unmasking Religions: A Dharmic Response is a bold and probing inquiry into the fundamental difference between dharma and religion. While dharma manifests as a universal cosmic discovery—timeless, experiential, and rooted in the natural order—religions, the book argues, are entirely self-serving inventions shaped by history, politics, power, and doctrine meant exclusively for humans. The work examines how proselytizing religions inflicted profound damage on both Nature and femininity as they expanded beyond their places of origin into pagan and Nature-centric civilizations. This expansion, the author contends, ushered in a worldview marked by domination, violence, chaos, and the characteristic gloom of adharma. The book then traces the origins and evolving attributes of the Lord God of these religions, following the historical transformation of the deity, who started His journey from within a dharmic milieu but eventually broke away decisively from the very foundations of dharma. In its final section, the book presents a striking inversion: human-invented religions are contrasted with the cosmic understanding of dharma that sustained Nature-worshipping societies for millennia. Through this comparison, readers are confronted with clear and unambiguous manifestations of adharma within religions, a reality that is seldom acknowledged or discussed in mainstream discourse. Ultimately, the book seeks to offer a framework for Hindu society to recognize adharma masquerading as dharma, to name it without hesitation, and to rejuvenate itself by returning to dharma, taking refuge in its timeless, ageless, and life-sustaining, divinity- infused values. A Dharmic Response is the first volume in a two-part work. Its sequel, Defilement of the Divine Pagan Planet, completes the inquiry. Together, the two books examine religions through the dual lenses of dharma and history, revealing how these traditions have profoundly shaped the contemporary world even as humanity continues to struggle to distinguish dharma from adharma.…

No Binding. Zustand: Fine. Inscription on verso: "To Leith Ross and his wife with all good wishes from their friends Haldane MacFall and Mabel Haldane MacFall, 1925." Unexamined out of the frame, but in very good clean condition.Claud Lovat Fraser was a London artist who studied at the Westminster School of Art under Walter Sickert. He was a close friend of the art critic Haldane MacFall (1860-1928), who introduced him to many impportant names in the theatre world. Lovat fought in France in World War I, being badly wounded in a gas attack in 1916, a circumstance that led to his early death in 1921. In 1917, he married American actress Grace Inez Crawford and it was through her encouragement that theatrical and costume design became so important to him. In this respect, one must mention Nigel Playfair's famous revival of 'The Beggar's Opera' at The Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith in 1921. Lovat Fraser died young, but his influence was to prove immense upon the generation of artists that came to the fore in the 1920s - particularly at the Curwen Press - household names, such as Paul Nash, Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious.…
