Laid into the book is a photocopy of the rights agreement between the Japanese publisher and Salinger's agent Harold Ober Associates noting the first printing of 20,000 copies, and in…cluding Salinger's usual terms: that the publisher shall not include any written material other than that by Salinger, they shall not include any photographs or biographical information of Salinger, the Japanese title must be a literal translation of the original title, Salinger must approve of the cover design, etc. Salinger's first book, a post-war highspot and one of the most widely read and beloved coming-of-age novels ever written. Later printings of the Japanese edition turn up, but the first edition is very uncommon. *Burgess 99*.
