However, this artificial reality cannot be distinguished from the actual reality so that all those caught in the simulation are not aware of it. Eventually, the Wachowski brothers picked up this idea in order to produce the Matrix trilogy, a cyberpunk story which may have led to more controversial discussions than any other movie in recent cinema history. The story is set in the near future and starts out with Neo, a computer hacker, being contacted by some underground rebels. Their leader Morpheus considers him to be some promised Christ-like savior, the ¿chosen one¿ to free the human race and reestablish peace between the machines and mankind. He introduces Neo to what he knows about reality. [.]But Neo did have a choice whether he really wanted to know the truth about the world he was living in. Morpheus offered him two options, namely a blue and a red pill: ¿You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe,¿ he explained to Neo. In allusion to Alice in Wonderland, he would otherwise ¿show [him] how deep the rabbit hole goes.¿ Although Morpheus insists he cannot offer ¿anything but the truth,¿ Neös decision in favour of the red pill is clear rather soon. This scene right at the beginning of the trilogy is also when everybody in front of the screens starts to wonder what he or she would have opted for. Even in the further course of the movie, when it is known that people just are slaves to the machines and living in a simulation, this question remains, to some extent. What advantages does it have to stick to the system and, on the other hand, what is wrong with living in such a simulated reality as presented in the Matrix trilogy It is the decision between reality and illusion. But what is real and what is unreal Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Scholars studying the phenomenon of civil war and its causes seem to have been largely exempt from this debate. There are two discernible reasons for this. First, the study of civil war has long been marginalized by the dominant theoretical paradigm of Realism within security studies, which does not concern itself with war, within the intrastate system. This is surprising, since from the start of the millennium, intrastate conflict has been far more prevalent than interstate conflict. Second, within the academic field of civil war onset, which this paper focuses on specifically, the theoretical approach is primarily positivist. Most literature on the subject of civil war, focuses around the so called ¿greed-grievance debate, and though the latter does usually focus on identity, it remains essentially positivist. This however, does not mean that the ¿Third Debate¿ does not apply to the academic field of civil war onset as this paper will show. This paper analyses two journal articles, one positivist: Greed and Grievance in Civil War (2004) by Paul Collier and Anke Hoeffler, and one post-positivist: The Construction of Grievance: Natural Resources and Identity in a Separatist Conflict (2007) by Edward Aspinall. Using these articles, this paper will compare and evaluate their research approaches, their worth and effectiveness in addressing the subject and research question and their contribution to knowledge. Finally this paper will give some recommendations as to future areas of inquiry.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Englisch.

Although the institutional structure of the EU is much different and undoubtedly improved from the one of the European Economic Community (EEC) the study of the initiating process, namely the EEC, is essential in order to understand what the basis of the recent EU is. Hence, the research for the initiating process of the EEC and sequentially the international context in which the EEC was formed are of great importance not only for the academic scholars but mostly for the European citizens. The concern of this study is the formation of the EEC under the International Political Economy theory (IPE), which emerged mainly after the Second World War and expanded in the decade of 70s. The cooperation of the leader European states in the formation of this institutional structure and its main task of European cooperation and adoption of common policies in order to achieve the demanded goal of economic development and prosperity is mainly based on the International Political Economy theory, since the last addresses the interaction of international relation and political economy. The first part of this study is devoted to the analysis of the International Political Economy and forms the theoretical framework of the study. Moreover, it presents the variety of the IPE and stresses its main aspects. Following, there is an introduction of the formation of the EEC and a short analysis of the political economies of the member states, which is helpful in order to have an overview of the different economies and the possible implications for the formation of the EEC. Finally, the conclusion consists of the outputs of the theoretical framework combined with the analysis of the economic situation of the different countries and attempts to present the causal relation between IPE and the formation of EEC.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Englisch.

In addition the ultrasonic therapy can be used as thermotherapy. The ultrasonic therapy is also, in the widest sense, a form of the electrotherapy. This justifies itself, because the ultrasound is being obtained from electric energy. The therapy form is used particularly with chronically degenerative illnesses of the human movement apparatus. Due to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, mandatory retirement ages in the United States have been largely eliminated. Additionally, Social Security regulations have been re-written to encourage delay of labor force withdrawal, and to reduce financial incentives for early retirement.According to a survey report from the Watson Wyatt consulting firm, it is expected that the workforce in the United States will become increasingly older. The survey concludes that 44 percent of those employees who are 50 years or older plan to retire after 65. The majority of the respondents (54%) stated that they will work for at least three more years than previously expected. Consequently, employers will be faced with numerous challenges. Families of older workers, their younger co-workers, as well as middle-age workers in today's multigenerational workforce are being affected. As such, the aging workforce will have impacts on the policies and practices of workplaces in the nonprofit, for-profit, and public sectors, and each individual employer is being challenged by the question of how to meet the requirements of their changing workforce. Besides impacts in the corporate environment, the nation¿s productivity, economic growth and global competitiveness are also being challenged. This paper seeks to investigate the impact of delayed retirement of workers within the United States. At first, the change in the age profile in the U.S. is investigated to highlight the reason for the aging workforce. Second, the reasons for older workers remaining in the workforce are shown. The next chapter demonstrates the impacts of an aging workforce. Special attention is concentrated on recommendations how companies can deal with this issue.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

(cf. Viereck 1980: 11; Götzeler 2008: 58-59) Due to the close collaboration in the political and economical sector, the contact between the two language regions has become more intense and has thus led to a higher frequency of borrowings from English. As a direct consequence of this process, a public discussion on the drawbacks of the use of anglicisms in German has started and found his peek in the foundation of the Verein Deutsche Sprache formerly called the Verein zur Rettung der deutschen Sprache in 1997. (cf. Götzeler 2008: 61)The increasing presence of loanwords, as commonly believed, as well as the ongoing public discussion on their use is reason enough to analyze the use of anglicisms in the German language by using the example of the German newsmagazine FOCUS. In this context it shall be examined, whether the frequency of anglicisms in 2009 is higher than the frequency in 1993. Furthermore, as the corpus consists of texts from two different categories, namely Deutschland and Modernes Leben, numerical differences concerning those sections is also subject of the study. As a result, proof for the following theses is expected:1. The frequency of anglicisms used in 2009 is higher than in 1993.2. The number of borrowings in the section Modernes Leben will be greater than in the section Deutschland.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 40 pp. Englisch.

In the Resolution UN is determined to: 1) have effective application and enforcement of restrictions against the warfare perpetrators; 2) bring justice and ensure that violations are halted; 3) have fair trials; 4) contribute to criminal justice and process of reconciliation and restoration and maintenance of peace.HypothesesIn the present paper author put forward two hypotheses. The first hypothesis is that creation of ICTR was a logical, but moderate step, which would have not been necessary if global society would have appropriately reacted to previous warnings about possible genocide in Rwanda. The second hypothesis is that ICTR was merely a vehicle of justice, but it is hardly designed as a vehicle for reconciliation.Analytical frameworkAuthor has discussed the work of ICTR and refer to particular aims, possibility of their achievement and assess outcomes. Author used three tools of analytical framework: legal, political and economical, as from these different standing points it is possible to assess the work of ICTR in its entirety. Legal aspects of work of ICTR extend from mere procedural points to ICTR¿s contribution to legal tradition and legal developments. Author depicted which of legal aspects have undermined the authority and image of ICTR, as well as could be deemed as actual shortcomings, and how these aspects influence achievement of justice as the ultimate goal of legal authority. Financial aspect shows the costs of ICTR, but political aspect deals with assessment of set goals in the Resolution and bringing justice as a prerogative, as it is expected to be effective and appropriate.Main conclusionsThe paper shows that while making a significant contribution to the law of genocide and international criminal justice and establishing historical record (achievements), ICTR was incapable in reconciliation of witnesses and survivors and was described as ¿job creation for foreigners¿ (shortcomings).Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Englisch.

Oftentimes it has been applied to people all across the Northeast of England. In contrast to this, recent studies consider the term rather inappropriate for people living elsewhere than in Newcastle and its direct surroundings, i.e. the so-called Tyneside. Wells claims the term is to be applied to ¿anyone who comes from Tyneside¿ (Wells 1982: p. 374). However, there is hardly any evidence for either theory. The name ¿Geordie¿ is obviously derived from the early 18th century, when the inhabitants of Newcastle supported the English kings George I and George II. Thus they had formed an opposition to Northumberland, where it was obligatory to support the Scottish Jacobite rebellions (cf. Smith 2007).What can be said without a doubt is that people living in Sunderland, not more than twenty miles south of Newcastle, would probably feel offended when being called a Geordie. They prefer the term ¿Mackem¿ in spite of quite a number of similarities to the Geordies with regard to language. According to Andrea Simmelbauer, Tyneside English, spoken in and around Newcastle, is a dialect which is ¿restricted to an area which stretches some 10-12 kilometres to the north and to the south of the river Tyne¿(Simmelbauer 2000: p. 27). Nonetheless, the task of a final definition of the term ¿Geordie¿ remains and will probably remain unsolved. So what can this paper do At least it can give an overview of the linguistic features which characterize the accent that is commonly used in Newcastle and its surroundings. This topic has been covered by a wide range of linguists not only in academic papers, but also in popular, commercial literature: Scott Dobson humorously made the suggestion to ¿Larn Yersel¿ Geordie¿ and Dick Irwin even published a book which contains ¿100 Geordie Jokes.¿If so, why not start off with such a joke right from the beginning. It goes as follows: A Geordie in a wheelchair visits a medical doctor. The doctor says: ¿Yoüve made good progress and it¿s time to try to walk again.¿ The Geordie replies: ¿Work Why man, Aa cannet even waak!¿ The joke only works under a certain condition. Examples for these are the USA and Germany. Since 1950, USA¿s population has been going through a demographic transition. Although its population has experienced growth over the years, it is aging rapidly and has become more racially and ethnically diverse. Germany on the other hand, has a diminishing population with a population structure of people 65 and over, rising at a rapid rate. These demographic changes have had sig-nificant consequences for these economies and have ultimately led to policy implementations to address the issue. There are also grave concerns for the future of the economies, and the question of policy considerations for these changes. The purpose of this research paper is to examine demographic changes that have occurred over time in USA and Germany, the impact that these changes have on these economies in par-ticular the labor market and the health system and future implications of these changes. In the existing literature have crystallized innumerable approaches of the economical cultural research. The corporate culture found special appeal as Japanese companies obtained an improbable export success. Particularly the western industrial nations felt this worldwide expansion as threatening. The typical corporate culture of the Japanese companies is the key to success.1 From this innumerable concepts of corporate culture were developed, which partly come to carry in this work.2 At first corporate culture is described in general and the most important definitions are clarified. Subsequently, an introduction to the forms and goals takes place. The condition for a successful corporate culture is the mission statement of a company, which is described in the subsequent section. Further the measurement (section 2.4) is meaningful to the culture, in order to define the actual deviation from the targets situation of the culture and introduce measures. In section 2.5, the creation of a corporate culture is described. Also this is very important to act target-oriented. The conclusion of the theory part forms the success of a corporate culture, which is the most significant section and in order to that the company will be promoted further. After that follows the case with Google. At first is given an overview of the company and its corporate culture. At last the innovation-oriented culture of Google is described, which led to the success of the company. Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 52 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Bachelor Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Computer Science - Commercial Information Technology, grade: 1,3, Technical University of Munich, language: English, abstract: In the sociology of risk, there are two different fields of research: risk objectivism and risk constructivism. The former deals with the actual increase of danger due to greater pressures through new technologies. Risk constructivism deals with the conception, perception and evaluation of risks in the social environment. Beck is a representative of objectivism. In his view, risk is produced by modern society itself. New risks are constantly emerging as a result of technological progress. This means that humans create their own risk environment and must now deal with it. Luhmann sees risk from a systems theory perspective. A social system is a process of social interactions between acting entities. According to Luhmann, risk only arises when there is communication about it. Furthermore, Luhmann sees the distinction between risk and safety as misleading and illusory. He proposes the concept of risk and danger. Douglas and Wildavsky represent neither an objective nor constructive notion of risk. They see risk as a collective construct that is shaped by the social context of the respective actors. The perception of risk is a social process. With the help of the grid-group model, a society can be divided into four cultural forms with specific risk-related characteristics. The cultural forms are individualism, hierarchy, fatalism and egalitarianism. The understanding of risk in information systems is analyzed based on software project management and IT security. The challenge in software development is to find the best position between costs and performances in order to satisfy both internal and external stakeholders. This is attempted with four approaches to risk management: risk checklists, an analysis framework, process models and risk response strategies. In this connection, it¿s worth noting that risks are perceived differently. Different risk assessments arise in various countries and different management levels. In the area of IT security, the ranking of risks varies in different countries. This difference in ranking can be explained with the help of the technology threat avoidance theory. The evaluation of the consequences and information plays a role in countering the threat. There are also two sociological components. The first is the informal influence. ¿Informal¿ is the quantity of information that makes its environment available. The second, ¿normative¿ influence deals with social norms and demands that are used to counter the risk.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 64 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2009 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, , language: English, abstract: Nowadays the word ¿Mafiä refers nearly all groups or gangs involved in organized crime. However, originally, Mafia meant an organized criminal organization of Italian, predominantly Sicilian, heritage. In fact, this word is a mere literary creation while the real name is ¿Cosa Nosträ meaning ¿our thing¿.For many years the common understanding of the Mafia was strictly limited by argument on whether there even was a Mafia. In the recent decades that argument was more or less settled, and the principal argument remaining is whether or not organized crime and the Mafia are one and the same thing. According to Finckenauer:To this end, this useful primer to the phenomenon quite rightly tarts with a simple question that begs a complex answer: what is organized crime Sometimes, the mobsters are easy to identify, a collection of ne¿er-do-wells with no visible source of income but owning flashy cars and homes; involved in the staples of organized criminality, whether trafficking drugs or infiltrating legitimate businesses. The old stereotypes, which were always something of a caricature, are becoming even less applicable in the modern world. [.]In part the confusion revolves around an understanding of the real nature of organized crime that existed since the earliest days of the nation and, indeed, earlier. It is worth remembering that, organized crime achieves its status not only by the fact of groups of practitioners, but also due to the fact that organized crime is syndicate crime in which certain activities are apportioned out to the various gangs and honored in the main by these gangs. What is interesting, in the beginning and even till the 1950s, many people regarded the Mafia not as law-breaking criminals but as role-models and protectors of the weak and the poor, as the state offered no protection to the lower classes. The question arises, where from such interest and the phenomenon of ¿good-Mafia-attitude¿ within the societies all over the world. As it will be presented within the course of this paper, out of the numerous fiction books and movies, above all, Mario Puzös The Godfather from 1969 and obviously the film adaptation made by Francis Ford Coppola ¿ were so successful that they deeply shaped a general understanding of the mafia [.]BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 72 pp. Englisch.

The author analyses the advantages, disadvantages, as well as impending conflicts and limits regarding the implementation process of an ICS in the regulatory environment of the EU. Possible theoretical implementation guidelines are elaborated on the basis oftwo commonly known frameworks for internal control, namely 1) the COSO Framework, which considers the general design of an ICS, except for detailed results of IT-based internal controls, and 2) the COBIT Framework, which provides details for the IT processes and their proposed controls. In addition, the author analyses the findings of a survey in which 27 internal control specialists, auditors, and internal control consultants participated. The results of the survey reveal that companies face a number of problems and challenges when aiming to implement and maintain an effective ICS. Similar to the findings in literature, the survey sample name the effort, resources, costs, and maintenance, as well as the acceptance, awareness, communication, design and complexity as the main challenges and problems an Internal Control System is confronted with. On the basis of the survey resultsthe author provides insights into determining an ICS¿ actual state, as well as its target state. Finally, the author of this dissertation proposes establishing an ICS project in order to create awareness for ICS, to structure the ICS process transparently and within an appropriate time frame. Furthermore, the usage of checklists and frameworks facilitates the implementation process of an ICS. It is recommended to use the COSO and COBIT Framework.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 100 pp. Englisch.

Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Deutsch.

Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Deutsch.
