Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 1998 in the subject Theology - Systematic Theology, grade: A+, Regent College, Vancouver, B.C., Kanada, course: The Gospel in the World of Thought: Christian Perspectives on the History of Philosophy, language: English, abstract: Not long ago, I met with some friends, Christians and non-Christians, for a philosophydiscussion. We discussed Anselm of Canterbury's ontological argument for the existence of God. None of us was convinced that Anselm's proof was valid. In the beginning of the evening, we agreed with Schopenhauer who called Anselm's argument a 'charming joke,_ but we went on talking and found ourselves challenged by Anselm's argument. It triggered a discussion that clarified various issues of our thoughts. This paper will be an investigation of the implications of Anselm's argument in the context of the contemporary western world -- an investigation of the multiple tangents from Anselm's philosophy to the streams of the popular mindsets of our time. Anselm (1033/4-1109), archbishop of Canterbury, lived in a time when many people felt that philosophical method possessed an intellectual respectability which theology lacked. Some theologians called Dialectics, like Anselm, started to apply philosophical dialectic and logic to theological issues. The question of the time was how the independence of philosophy could be reconciled with the Catholic position. In 1072, Peter Damian defined philosophy as ancilla dominae (maid of the Lord). Among the Dialectics, Anselm belonged to the group of the Realists. About 1070 he started his writing career. His most important works are Proslogium, Monologium, and Cur Deus homo. Although calling Anselm the 'father of Scholasticism_ might be an exaggeration, he set the trend in theology and philosophy for the following centuries by explaining the Christian faith in a rational, logical system. In the 12th century, the Roman Catholic Church made him a saint, and in the 18th called him doctor ecclesiae. Anselm became best known for the ontological argument for the existence of God which he first formulated in the Proslogium. It goes as follows: God, Anselm defines, is the 'being than which nothing greater can be conceived._ Since existence in reality is greater than existence in understanding alone, i.,q.n.m.c.p.11 existing in reality is greater than i.,q.n.m.c.p. not existing in reality. Hence, if i.,q.n.m.c.p. existed not in reality, it were not i.,q.n.m.c.p., for something greater than it could be conceived. This is an absurd contradiction in itself: 'certe hoc esse non potest.' However, it is still a budding industry because Russia and Iran- owners of the largest gas reserves in the world are still fledgling LNG exporters (Economides and Wood 2009). According to Kumar et al. (2011) LNG is also a clean substitute over petrol and diesel. Moreover the Asian tigers like Japan, China and India are still growing their economies (ExxonMobil 2010: 8). Thus, the Asian tigers¿ LNG demand, the eco-nature of LNG, coupled with Russia and Iran¿s LNG exports - can create a more robust LNG market in the future. IntroductionThe following paper deals with the female characters in the play ¿The little foxes¿, written by Lillian Hellmann in 1939.In the United States the role of women in society changed drastically in the 20th century. In the past married women were homebound and dependent on their husbands, but they became active and independent in 1900. The increasing possibilities to work outside the house led to the fact that women became wage- earners. Finally, the women¿s attitude to life changed dramatically. In the beginning of this paper an overview of the historical background, considering the social role of women in the 20th century, is given. Afterwards, the change of the role of women will be exemplified by the female characters of Regina, Birdie and Alexandra in ¿The Little Foxes¿. Especially Regina and Birdie can be seen as contrastive examples because they show in an opposite way how to deal with their powerless role in the Hubbard family.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,7, Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald, course: Analysing Novels , language: English, abstract: The following term paper will be a comparison of Daniel Defoe¿s Robinson Crusoe, which we discussed in class, and William Golding¿s Lord of the flies. For most literary scholars the latter definitely is a robinsonade, which is a general term used for narrations and novels written and published after Defoe¿s Robinson Crusoe. For others it is not seen as such, and some just see parts of this genre in the novel. Even if the opinions differ, it is obvious that there is a certain nearness to the robinsonades. Some aspects of the novel might make it difficult to arrange it into this genre. Conspicuous is that the different contributions are not drawn upon the same basics. The question that arises is: What is a robinsonade This question is answered in different ways by the critics, so that this seems to be the real problem. There are considerations to this topic, which strongly lean on Daniel Defoe¿s novel ¿Robinson Crusoe¿ , and which see the structure and aspects of this work not as a basis but as a guideline. Next to this there are other theories, which have a more unattached usage of this topic. They both have in common that there is no general consensus about a definition or a hold onto special criteria. In the first part of my term paper I want to give a brief overview of the character of the robinsonade, the features of the genre, and I will present some examples I have chosen from the ocean of robinsonades that already exist. I will not refer to Defoe¿s ¿Robinson Crusoe¿ in this part as much as I would like to, because this would blast my term paper. In the second part I will analyse Golding¿s ¿Lord of the flies¿ in the respect of the worked out criteria, to find out whether it is a robinsonade or not. For this I will also have a deeper look in Defoe¿s novel, so it will be a comparison of the novels ¿Lord of the flies¿ and ¿Robinson Crusoe¿.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Romance Studies - Latin American Studies, grade: 1,3, University of Toronto, language: English, abstract: In her essay ¿Postcolonialism and Latin American literature: the case of Carlos Fuentes¿ Nadia Lie describes two different currents of Postcolonialism: the first one is the literature that grew out of colonial experience in Latin America and is considered an answer to the over present literature of the oppressing European literary traditions. The second one is characterized by a set of theoretical concerns and reading strategies. Rather than merely ¿writing back¿, a term introduced by Bill Ashcroft, Gareth Griffiths and Helen Tiffin, this approach suggests that cultural differences are constructed by replacing the strong binary opposition ¿us¿ versus ¿the other¿ with concepts of hybridity, in-betweenness and border thinking (see Lie 2005: 139-140).The early work of Mexican author Carlos Fuentes (\*1928) can be seen in an intermediate position between these two concepts. Even though the theme of otherness and opposition is very present in his work, as can be seen in La frontera de cristal (1995) and his early novel Aura (1962), his writing is full of intertextual references that show his appreciation for both European and Latin American literary tradition. As part of the ¿Boom¿ movement in Latin American literature he also uses supernatural and gothic elements that sometimes make it hard or even impossible to distinguish between reality and illusion:According to this aesthetic, unreal things are treated as if realistic and mundane, and mundane things as if unreal. Plots, while often based on real experiences, incorporate strange, fantastic, and legendary elements, mythical peoples, speculative settings, and characters who, while plausible, could also be unreal, and combine the true, the imaginary, and the nonexistent in such a way that they are difficult to separate. (Pope 1996: 229)Fuentes¿ novel Aura is an early example of this tradition. The purpose of this essay will be a postcolonial approach to the novel, showing Fuentes¿ position in the discourse of postcolonial identities and literatures. The argument will be based on notions of time, space and intertextual references that can be found in Aura.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 16 pp. Englisch.

Like these, it plays with time to recount stories linked by a terrible incident , i.e, here the unintentional shooting of an American traveller by two Moroccan children. Its title obviously refers to the Genesis episode occurring in the city of Babel: Noah and his sons want to erect a tower to reach the skies but they soon get punished by God who creates different languages dividing human beings. As language is the fundamental source of any interchange, one may conclude from the title that the first topic Babel sets out is related to communication. Those years in America, the 1920s, are often considered as the Roaring Twenties: a decade of great social change, a decade of jazz, an age of success and American Dream, an age of everything. The American Dream is often described as the aspiration of young Americans to live better than their parents: without war, poverty and misfortune but with love, wealth and happiness. In fact after World War I many Americans wished to return to the peaceful time they had before the war. During the 1920s, Americans focused on building economic prosperity and most people focused on the present with little concern for the future: life became easier and more enjoyable. Unfortunately, this age of prosperity, complete independence, self-reliance and opportunity quickly became an age of downfall: in order to pursue this utopia, people were asked to work harder. In consequence they could not prosper themselves but only endured.Fitzgerald condemns this American society of the 1920s that has lost its pursuit of progress for happiness to finally become purely materialistic and corrupt. In this essay, I will deal with the road from the Midwest to New York City and the road from West Egg to East Egg both exemplifying the decay of the American Dream, personified by the characters of Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway, as there is a strong relationship in the novel between the geography of the roads and the characters' social values. On the one hand is the journey of Nick Carraway coming from the Midwest and going to New York City where he discovers corruption and immorality. On the other hand we find the road Jay Gatsby is following to be accepted among the wealthiest and to be loved by Daisy. This road, from West Egg to East Egg, represents the movement from solemnity and honesty to obsession of class and privilege.I wish to show that these two roads epitomize the decay of the American Dream: through two main characters of the novel and in two different ways that we will discover in this essay, the two roads or journeys that are followed by these two characters start from a point of moral prosperity to move them towards a state of moral decay: Gatsby more profoundly than the Nick. This essay will be twofold: the first part will concern the road from West Egg to East Egg that Jay Gatsby follows while the second part will deal with the road of Nick Carraway: the road from the Midwest to New York City.

Within the European Union (EU) the consideration of supply security is of particular significance as the member states depend on outside sources, meaning principally oil and gas, to satisfy their need of energy. The EU-27 was dependent on oil imports on 82.6% and on gas imports on 60.3% in 2007. Own resources are not sufficient and in the present days the EU merely covers 46.9% of the energy consumption by its own means. When the current trends proceed the EU will be dependent on 90% for oil, 70% for gas and 100% for coal in years 2030-40.Therefore, the role of producer countries becomes increasingly important, especially regarding Russia as it is the biggest importer to the EU in crude oil, gas and hard coal. The supply dependence on Russia could have severe consequences for the EU as gas disruptions leading to supply crises in several member states like in 2006 and 2009 had already shown. But also the Russian Federation is dependent because the EU is one of the most important consumers of its gas and oil exports. Russiäs economy is reliant on oil and gas production; in 2007 the energy sector generated about 64% of its exports revenues. Accordingly, Russia also has to deal with the problem of energy security, but in the perspective that it aims at securing demand and the purchase of its gas and oil resources, especially by the EU.As both parties depend on each other in their energy security there is a case of interdependence in the EU-Russian energy relationship. When examining this relation of interdependence it is interesting not just to regard the present state of affairs but also the trends and future development and how the EU and Russia deal with that. For the analysis the notions of sensitivity and vulnerability are used. The guiding research question of this paper is therefore: What is the degree of sensitivity and vulnerability for the EU and Russia regarding their relation of interdependence in energy security It is hypothesized that the Russian Federation is more vulnerable, especially on the subject of its political strategy. The concept of interdependence by Robert Keohane and Joseph Nye provides the theoretical basis for this paper. In order to conclude this paper, the degrees of sensitivity and vulnerability of the actors are evaluated and the hypothesis is proven right or wrong.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Englisch.

Already from the very beginning, hardly any other play has experienced so many diverse receptions after its publication. In his essay on The Merchant of Venice, Walter Cohen comments that ¿no other Shakespeare comedy before All¿s Well That Ends Well (1602) and Measure for Measure (1604), perhaps no other Shakespeare comedy at all, has excited comparable controversy.¿Although the title page of the first edition of the play ¿The Most Excellent Historie of the Merchant of Venice¿ (first print in 1600) suggested it to be a history play, it had initially been classified as a comedy. In 1623, Heminges and Condell placed The Merchant of Venice among the comedies in the First Folio of Shakespeare¿s works. However, many readers, actors, directors and playgoers still argue about the genre of the play. They have difficulties in defining The Merchant of Venice as a comedy as the following quotation shows: ¿Indeed, seen from any angle, The Merchant of Venice is not a very funny play, and we might gain a lot if, for the moment, we ceased to be bullied by its inclusion in the comedies.¿ Today, The Merchant of Venice is often read and played more like a problem play or even a tragedy. The following term paper deals with the classification of the literary genre of The Merchant of Venice. Does the play belong to the category of comedies or shall it rather be identified as a tragedy or problem play To assign the play to a specific category, it is necessary to shortly present the criteria of the genres comedy, tragedy and problem play. In chapter 3, the play will be analysed in terms of comic and tragic aspects. The focus is put on the flesh-bond and the courtship plot, the first having its setting in Venice, the second in Belmont. The aim of this chapter is to illustrate that The Merchant of Venice contains both comic and tragic elements. Chapter 4 deals with the complex character Shylock whose perception has changed through the centuries. Is he still the comic villain of the Elizabethan time or can he rather be seen as a victim of extreme anti-Semitism By giving an insight into comic and tragic aspects in Shakespeare¿s The Merchant of Venice, this term paper shall try to solve the problem of assigning the play to a specific literary genre.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 24 pp. Englisch.

Actually, Carrie and Hurstwood, her husband, are the main characters of the novel. But due to its prominence, the city can be seen as an additional character which influences the way of life of everything living in it. The novel¿s action takes place in three different cities: Chicago, Montreal and New York. Even though, the cities differentiate in some specifics, they all reflect the concept of city applied in literature. In his opinion education is the right way to achieve this aim. Therefore, he gave lectures and speeches, helped to found the Social Democratic Federation and the Socialist League and wrote articles, among others for the League¿s Newspaper Commonweal. There, Morris¿s News from Nowhere, a utopia, was first published as a serial novel. It is probably the most obvious representation of his convictions concerning education. He emphasises how life could look like in Communism and which advantages it could bring with it. It is stressed how political enlightenment of the society contributes tremendously to achieve the intended form of government. In his novel, Morris clearly points out his wishes and aims and thereby allows his fellow men an insight into a better, a socialistic coined world. As socialism needs supporter for its genesis, Morris has been fighting for the creation of those through proper education by all available means during his lifetime.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Englisch.

Although, in this limited sense, the legislation of active euthanasia, as accepted in April 2001 in The Netherlands, has provoked a lot of debates. It is often said, once voluntary euthanasia has become legal, we will have set foot on a slippery slope that will lead to tolerating other forms of euthanasia, including non-voluntary euthanasia. If true, this is a powerful argument in the battle of those who oppose to the legalization of euthanasia. However, as many facets of the medical practice of euthanasia remain unclear, and no reliable records on the actual practice of euthanasia exist, the power of any slippery slope argument is limited. Experience in The Netherlands may shed light on both sides of the medal. This paper consists of four parts. First, I explain the laws that control euthanasia in The Netherlands and elucidate the cultural background in which they originated. Second, I examine more closely the argument of the slippery slope and distinguish a logical and an empirical version. Thirdly, I concentrate on whether experiences in The Netherlands justify any concern about the slippery slope argument. Finally, by addressing questions like ¿Could euthanasia be safely regulated in other countries ¿ or ¿Has legalizing euthanasia set off knock-on effects ¿ I conclude briefly that Dutch experiences certainly justify some caution.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Englisch.

The novel deals with the relationships between the neighbours, the class differences and, typical for Jane Austen novels, marriage and match- making. The characters in this novel may not be as highly-drawn as the ones in Pride and Prejudice are, but it ¿delineates with great accuracy the manners and the habits of a middle class gentry¿ (Gentleman¿s Magazine in September 1816: Lodge 1972: 46), and thus Emma is convenient to be a source for research for typical habits. In this paper, the aspects of family life, neighbourhood, manners and values in Emma (and thus representatively for the English Regency period) are to be portrayed.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 20 pp. Englisch.

In this regard, it draws a parallelism between the character of Fama and a foot-soldier and makes recommendations for the way forward in order to sustain socioeconomic and democratic development. Consequently, the study draws attention to issues relating to political fanaticism and their accompanying tragic disenchantment for unsuspecting self-seeking citizens in emerging multiparty democratic states in developing countries such as Ghana. In the light of the inherent dangers in self-seeking political activism as seen in the character of Fama, for that matter, in that of foot-soldiers, the study recommends steps that will help sanitize political activities and democratic practice in Ghana, and Africa as a whole.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Englisch.

Despite a lack of initial success, TOS had four other series following it as well as now eleven feature films. TOS was the corner stone of the Star Trek universe. The interest behind this paper is the political and ideological subtext of Star Trek in 2009, as well as the commercial grounds behind it. Wasn¿t Star Trek dead after Kirk died and fewer and fewer people watched the adventures of Capt. Picard¿s crew on the big screen3 What makes this American utopian science fiction so appealing to audiences throughout the world Why is it necessary to adapt and reinvent a brand from the sixties How did they do it and what changed the original vision and concept from Gene Roddenberry over time Star Trek has always incorporated traditional American key conceptual values and myths. How does that translate into the 21st century How can audiences, new to the concept of Star Trek, relate to it while at the same time getting the entire exposition needed to emotionally partake in this universe To answer at least some of these questions, I will give a short summary on the history of the franchise and narrative, as well as the mythological and genre implications. Later the plot of Star Trek will be laid out briefly as I analyze, in a more detailed manner, several aspects and narrative devices of the film in regard to its 1960s predecessor. Unfortunately the analysis of the new Star Trek movie will have to be without the original script written by Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman, which is still not available, neither online nor elsewhere. Apart from that, it can be stated that the film was crafted very much after the final script version since the WGA went on strike right after the script was finished in early November 2007 and director J.J. Abrams, as a member of the WGA, was not allowed to alter anything in the script during filming. However, I hope that through analyzing and comparing the ¿old¿ and ¿new¿ Star Trek universe, I can offer considerable insight into what is behind the legendary narrative of Star Trek, aside from Hollywood¿s lust for dollars and action-packed blockbusters.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Politics - Methods, Research, grade: 1,3 (77%), University of Warwick (Politics and International Studies), course: Qualitative Research Methods, language: English, abstract: Validity and reliability as quality indicators have an uneasy standing in qualitative research and are subject to numerous debates. Researchers from different paradigmatic backgrounds expressed a variety of views, the extremes ranging from a complete denial of the possibility of valid and reliable qualitative research on one hand to the rejection of validity and reliability as meaningful quality indicators on the other. The following essay acknowledges the diverging assumptions underlying the different paradigms associated with quantitative and qualitative research. However, it denies that validity and reliability are inherently connected to predetermined ontological or epistemological assumptions and argues for their general use as quality indicators. To clarify this claim, a selection of different paradigms and thedevelopment of alternative quality indicators within them are highlighted. Since the usefulness of this multitude of indicators is questionable, reconciliation is attempted by consolidating them. The concepts of ¿core validity¿ and ¿core reliability¿, which can be specified according to the researcher¿s paradigm, are introduced for this task. These concepts underline the relevance and applicability of validity and reliability as quality indicators in qualitative research. Furthermore, qualitative research has developed strategies and methods, which enable the researcher to address negative influences on validity and reliability and achieve high degrees of both.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 28 pp. Englisch.

International Development, language: English, abstract: The history of development over the last century has been one of competing theoriesand developmental models. From time to time certain models dominated the theoretical and practical agenda. These models of development had ¿ and still have - their own advantages and disadvantages, advocates and opponents, strengths and weaknesses. Neo-liberalism is one of the models that was studied most deeply in terms of its positive and negative impacts on development generally and on the state role specifically. Since the 1970s neoliberal approach was widely applied in different countries around the world, including developing and developed countries with the assistance of the International Financial Institutions (IFI) that evidently advocate for neoliberalism in developing countries. Therefore, strong debates on the efficiency and validity of this approach were developed (Greig et al., 2007). This paper will discuss neoliberalism as one of the development models. It attempts to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the neoliberal approach to development. It will start by reviewing the emergence and evolution of neoliberalism. Then, some of the strengths and weaknesses of neoliberalism will be presented. Chilean and Egyptian case studies will be briefly highlighted in order to illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of neoliberalism. Finally, the conclusion will be presented.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

In this essay, I argue against this perspective. I claim thatin comparison to Heart of Darkness, which indeed projects Africa as a negative foil for Europe, Rider Haggard manages to give Africa and its inhabitants, despite his literary shortcomings, a graceful quality not found in Conrad¿s work. While both authors depict Africa as ¿the other world¿ in the way their ambitions and prejudices create an image with little historical accuracy, Haggard¿s embellished social utopia fails to display the deep-seated anxiety towards Africa Achebe finds in Conrad.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 28 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Bachelor Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 2,0, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, language: English, abstract: This thesis investigates the use of African American Vernacular English in contemporary music. AAVE is an ethnic variety spoken by many, though not all, African Americans living in the United States. This dialect does not have one name only, but is also called ¿Negro dialect,¿ ¿Nonstandard Negro English,¿ ¿Black English,¿ ¿Black Street Speech,¿ ¿Black Vernacular English,¿ ¿Black Vernacular English,¿ or ¿African American English.¿ I would like to add that some terms are historical. It is crucial to know that researchers call it differently because to a large degree it depends on the time he/she conducted research on this topic. Today, the dialect is either called African American Vernacular English or African American English. The words ¿contemporary music¿ in the title refer to Hip Hop. This music genre was chosen to be investigated because out of the music genres African Americans are involved in, it is the one that generates most of the sales and is the most popular one. The rappers which are going to be analyzed in this thesis use many of the features of the African American vernacular. Given the huge number of AAVE features, only one of them will be analyzed, the copula verb to be, which in the following will only be called ¿the copula.¿ According to Wolfram, the copula is ¿one of the most often described structures of AAVE¿ (2008: 517). For this reason, the copula might be an interesting feature to look at. When researchers examined AAVE in the past, they did not necessarily take music as a source of data, but rather spoken language. One has to know that language in music is a different genre of language use, which differs from the usual use of the language. Music can be considered an artistic expression, but not ¿real¿ speech. Nevertheless, as music has always been and presumably will always be a big part in African American culture, it should be possible to recognize features of AAVE and use music as a reliable source. In the analysis conducted in this thesis, the use of the copula will be examined by having a look at the lyrics of three famous rappers from the US: Tupac, Jay-Z and 50 Cent. Even though the three of them can be assigned to ¿gangsta rap¿, they all differ from each other. They all started their careers in different decades, come from different cities and have a different style of rapping. What they have in common is that they are African American rappers from a lower class who grew up in poverty and have become successful musicians.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 44 pp. Englisch.

However, as this essay would like to show, there remained many questions opened. The major thing that kept us puzzle through our previous doctoral research as well was that how parental rights and duties can be exercised if the parents get divorced, or there is a partner of life (cohabitation) and also when one or both parents remarry. In these cases, the duties and the rights must be handled more precisely. We do think that the Code does not count on these in every detail. The problem might be that the CIC itself would not account for civil divorce and re-marriage. It only speaks about ¿legal¿ separation. However, in the case of a successful nullity case and positive decision, we must account for remarriage, or partnership where the duties and right must also be exercised, and the children must get the proper education.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 36 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,0, University of Trier, course: The American Films of Alfred Hitchcock, language: English, abstract: 1. IntroductionIt was probably Psychös expressionistic interplay between music, mise en scène and story telling which remotely reminded me of Martin Scorsese¿s Taxi Driver, a film I had written about before, that fostered my decision to write about the film that is by many considered to be Alfred Hitchcock¿s masterpiece. As a student of English literature I became quickly interested in the literary model of Psycho by Robert Bloch. It soon dawned on me that since the book is basically a piece of pulp fiction with considerably low literary value I would not be able to draw very profound interpretations out of it.Hitchcock however had not adapted the book for its substance but for its structure which he had incorporated with some minor alterations almost identically into the film.On my search for the structure of my paper a book by Vibeke Reuter called Alfred Hitchcocks Handschrift rose my attention. Her starting point basically is the question what constituted Hitchcock¿s originality and in how far his filmic material differs from its literary models. With occasional references to the books she analyzes Hitchcock¿s films according to ten different narrative parameters. These parameters cover a broad range of aspects and in terms of narration display a rather integral picture.I adopted her structure but omitted the parameter of the ¿structure of time¿ since Hitchcock pretty much conformed with the novel`s chronology and the fact that some characters are in a way imprisoned by their past did not prove to be enough to form a whole subsection. As far as she referred to Psycho in her book I have integrated her arguments into my own argumentation. Like her I have primarily concentrated on the 1960 film and only referred to the novel in order to elaborate on Hitchcock¿s innovations or his fixations that were already laid out in the book. How he tells his version of the story, creates suspense and produces identificatory uneasyness shall be worked out.Subsections: Introduction, Peculiarities (Begebenheiten), Heterosexual Relationships, Evil, Guilt, The Gaze, Psychological Ideas, The Picture of State Authorities, Structure, Narrative Situation, Distribution of Knowledge, Language, Motifs and Symbols, Geometrical Patterns, Mirrors, Birds, Space, Characters, Places of Indefinition (Unbestimmtheitsstellen), Elements of Genre, Conclusion, Sources, Internet SourcesBooks on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 32 pp. Englisch.
