Soft cover. Zustand: As New. 1st Edition. Softcover, 288 pgs. 6" x 8.25". Text in Japanese. As new. Provocative Relationship Daido Moriyama x Takuma Nakahira is the official catalog for the exhibition of the same title, held at The Museum of Modern Art, Hayama from July 15 to September 24, 2023. Both the catalog and the exhibition represent an invaluable attempt to trace the artistic relationship between Daido Moriyama and Takuma Nakahira, as well as the complex and fundamental ways in which they have influenced each other. Moriyama and Nakahira first met through Shomei Tomatsu in the 1960s, worked together on the highly-influential Provoke magazine, and continued to stimulate each other s creative and intellectual approach until Nakahira s death in 2015. In addition to photographs documenting the exhibition itself, the book explores their relationship in seven chronological chapters. …

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Born 1960 in Saitama. Started his career after studying photography under Seiryu Inoue while still enrolled at Osaka University of Arts. While having numerous devoted fans, he doesn't present new works very often, as his extremely persistent approach is reflected in every single print that he finishes in up to one month of highly concentrated work. Charged with astonishing density and intensity, his works have been awarded a New Photographer Prize at the Higashikawa International Photo Festival in 1993. Photo books include deja-vu #11: Inose Kou ('93) and Inose Kou Visions of Japan ('98). Solo exhibitions include the 'Inose Kou Photo Exhibition' at Space Kobo & Tomo in 2001. He also participated in the group exhibition 'Lonely Planet' at Art Tower Mito in 2004, and is presently one of those artists whose exhibitions are most anticipated.…

Soft cover. Zustand: New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Limited edition of 500 copies, hand-numbered in black ink and signed in black marker on the first page by Moriyama. Soft cover. Photographically illustrated wrappers, with photographically illustrated laminated dust jacket with title printed in Japanese and English on cover and spine. Photographs by Daido Moriyama. 436 pp., with full-bleed duotone plates throughout, printed in Japan by Nissha Printing Co. Ltd. 11-3/4 x 9 inches. Out of print and scarce. New in publisher's shrink-wrap (slit open for signature). Daido Moriyama's signature style and numerous motifs are more evident than ever in Hawaii, perhaps his finest book in many years. Ominous dark seas, sultry landscapes and red-light districts, Warhol-inspired pop culture icons (Elvis and Marylyn make their inevitable appearances), solitary figures on desolate streets, are all 'pure Daido.' The occasional nod in homage to Robert Frank, Lisette Model, William Klein, Walker Evans, and others, balance the overt Provoke-era style Daido helped forge. Without the inclusion of several images of road signs and store names (and of course, the book's title), most of these photographs could have been made in any coastal city. From the artist: "In Spring [2004], I am going to go to Hawaii to photograph. I'm so excited, and a little anxious - I've never been there before. The idea of Hawaii has been stuck in my mind for many, many years, just as the idea of a place. I try to imagine what it's like, and I have a certain image of it - a nostalgic place, a place where time has stopped. When I get there, I'll probably find out it's nothing like that."From the publisher: "Born in 1938, Daido Moriyama is widely recognized as one of Japan's most important and influential postwar photographers. His powerful, edgy black-and-white photographs have been the subject of dozens of books, which have themselves had an enormous impact on the world of photography." Comprising photographs taken on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, Maui and Kauai from 2004-2007, this substantial and satisfying collection traverses through the full extent of Moriyama's range and offers over 400 images reflecting his astounding, singular vision." From the essay by Hideto Akasaka: "The Novembre album was created at the intersection of the skintight sensation of the continually changing fashion consciousness described by designer Naoki Takizawa and the reality that photographer Daido Moriyama's camera has brought to life, illuminating slices of the world around us and fixing them in Moriyama monochrome. This portfolio features Daido Moriyama's singular fashion shoot of Naoki Takizawa's Paris collection. According to Takizawa, 'Female body consciousness was changing rapidly' and that feeling he was looking for was the idea that clothes are sort of an expression of a person's inner life. When he studies Moriyama's work, he feels as if the clothes have tumbled into place in a reality that is somehow the actual Paris." Signed by Author.…
