Gilt decorated boards with elaborate flat binding decorated in six gilt ruled and decorated compartments. With a red lettering piece. Boards and spine rubbed. Hinges split but holding well. Monogram on the spine for Mary Hill, Marchioness of Downshire and inscribed for the same, on the title page. Mary Hill, Marchioness of Downshire and 1st Baroness Sandys (1764 1836), was a British peeress. She was the heiress of her uncle, Edwin Sandys, 2nd Baron Sandys, and to the estates of her grandfather, William Trumbull, including Easthampstead Park. On 19 June 1802, she was created Baroness Sandys, with a special remainder to her second, third, fourth and fifth sons respectively, and finally to her eldest son, who had succeeded his father as Marquess of Downshire. The volume measures 29 x 23 x 3 cm. Each leaf measures 280 x 220 mm. …
