Gered Mankowitz (illustrator). A highly collectable Review Copy and association copy of Masons Yard to Primrose Hill, inscribed by the photographer and author Gered Mankowitz to the singer and actress Marianne Faithfull, a person who is almost uniquely tied up with the story of the Rolling Stones. The inscription reads: 'For Marianne all love always Gered'. The book is a superb photographic account of the Rolling Stones from 1965-1967. Original black quarter leather with paper photographic covered boards, titles in blind on the spine. This copy, perhaps as it is a review copy, has no slipcase. Marianne Faithfull's name is almost synonymous with the Rolling Stones in the 1960s. Famously Mick Jagger's girlfriend from 1966 to 1970, Marianne (1946-2025) was an accomplished and famous singer and songwriter in her own right; her first single - As Tears Go By - written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, achieved great fame in 1964. She went on to release an amazing 22 solo albums, and fought against drug addiction, in a life that was marked by turbulence and personal struggle. This is a Review Copy, and therefore not part of the numbered limited edition: the limitation page says 'This is an unnumbered review copy and not part of the limited edition'. Beneath that line, Gered Mankowitz has signed his name in silver and then the inscription is written below, in the same pen. Also on the same page are three contact sheet images of The Rolling Stones. The publisher Genesis writes: 'From 1965-67, Gered Mankowitz was the photographer, friend and travelling companion of The Rolling Stones. Throughout this time, he captured unique and breathtaking images of the band at work and at play. His photograph for the cover of the Stone's recording Between The Buttons is regarded by many as one of the most memorable album covers of all time. For those two years Gered's relationship with the Stones flourished and he had unrivalled access to the band's concerts, recording sessions and hotel rooms. In preparing this book, Gered individually proofed and examined 3,500 frames carefully stored in his own personal archive, an experience which he described as being 'like viewing much of my work for the very first time'.
