The first of the many collaborations between author and printer. "The poems in this collection are arbitrarily arranged by the alphabetical order of their first lines. They represent a repertory of case-law rather than a code, a speech rather than a grammar, and seek to embody rather than to order the truths of experience. Hence they need not be read sequentially and lack a syntax though not a unity of meaning" - "My girl is fresh as paint / And maybe innocent. / She stands upon her toes, / So neat and so close. / Why shouldn't she sleep chaste / To marry at this last? / And what I do with you / Is wrong as an old shoe.".

The last of the Fuller-Anderson collaborations. "Some of my most treasured books have been pamphlets," wrote Peter Levi in The Spectator (20 February 1988), "Eluard's poem 'J'écris ton nom' for example, designed by Léger as a kind of pull-out, and Enzo Crea's pamphlet edition of The Cats of St Nicholas by George Seferis, and the thrilling bottle-green pamphlets of poems that the Tragara Press have been producing recently for Roy Fuller. His poems of old age are like some extraordinary wine that goes on and on getting mellower and more like itself and yet somehow stronger, with no loss of youthful zest or sharpness. He is the only great poet to have shown interest in earwigs." Halliwell A126. Smith 64.

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Blue-grey wrappers. Covers a little creased. Edition limited to 55 numbered copies. Memoir first printed in The Dublin Magazine, April-June 1929. Tancrède Martel (né Joseph François Eugène Napoléon Gras, 1856-1928), "poet, novelist, historian, playwright", was "found dead in his lodging. His death was said to be due to cold and lack of food. The coverings on his bed were thin and mean and his feet were bare . . . That a man who had worked so hard and long at his craft should thus give up the ghost, destitute and forsaken, stirred the public imagination, at least for a moment . . . Till the war, and for a little while afterwards, Tancrède Martel managed to live on what he earned by writing for the newspapers. Then one day it was decided that the newspapers must be remodelled to suit the tastes of a new and Americanized generation, and a number of heads were sacrificed to make room for more spicy performers, 'live wires,' goats with 'pep.' Tancrède Martel was one of the first to be kicked out, because there was nothing to fear from him.".
