A new edition of Waugh's first book, which was privately printed in 1926.

Comes with a handwritten letter on Dalrymple Press headed paper, from Robert Harling to 'Dear Gordon.' A beautifully produced book showcasing the designs in colour reproduction of Eric William Ravilious, British painter, designer, book illustrator and wood-engraver who grew up in Sussex, and is particularly known for his watercolours of the South Downs. Near fine in near fine dustjacket.

Large 4to. pp. 54; illustrations. Limited to 750 copies, this one marked out of series. Usually found bound in blind stamped yellow cloth with a dust wrapper reproducing a diamond patterned geometric design by Ravilious, repeated on the end papers, this copy is bound in a specially produced cloth which is woven (not printed) with the same design. With a leather title label and contained in a paper covered slip case which uses the same design (printed). Possibly one of a few trial or presentation copies.

The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with just a tiny amount of creasing at rear upper spine area. This special edition is accompanied by 'an Impression of the Alphabet Mug Design printed from the original copper plates. This design being in the possession of Wedgwood & sons Ltd and is numbered number 40/50'. This impression is in Fine condition with original tissue guard and folder present. Accompanied by the original publisher's Flyer and Prospectus for this title in near Fine condition with one crease to the latter where it has been previously folded. Accompanied by a Signed letter from Robert Dalrymple on the Press' headed paper to a subscriber to the previous owner of this title. 24 pages of colour illustrations of the Ravilious designs for Wedgwood with the finished pottery photographed in black and white. The statement "As proofed 8-7-82" is written on the first page of all gatherings (hand unidentified, see below), and there are occasional marginal corrections (not in Waugh's hand). With additional related material comprising two letters from Robert Hamilton Dalrymple himself, and printed ephemera. A. Two one page letters from Robert Hamilton Dalrymple to "Mr Rose", 5 July 1982 and 13 July 1982, calligraphic of course, the first discussing the publishing history of "PRB" and how his publication of it came about, adding "The Dalrymple Press is in fact a corner of my bedroom [.]", inviting publicity. The second, obviously enclosed with this proof with "some details of the first book I published" ("The Little Holland House Album"), gives information about the origins of his interest in printing and the success of his first project. He reveals that he's working for a printer (presumably commmercial) in Kent "so the Dalrymple Press operates out of office hours"; B. Order form for "PRB"; C.
