Soft cover. Zustand: New. Ayurveda has rightly emphasized that health is the state of normalcy of Dosha, Dathu, Agni and Malakriya. It also includes Prasanna Atma (soul), Indriya (sense organs) and Manas (mind). Three doshas of the body, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which broadly represent the nervous system, the metabolic system and the nutritive system, keep the human body in balance. Whenever the delicate balance between these doshas is disturbed, a disease may be manifested. The main objective of the Panchakarma treatment is to restore the original state of equilibrium between the doshas so that diseases will not recur. In order to achieve the same Ayurveda has advocated certain regimens and treatment modalities such as Dinacharya, Rutucharya, Vega Adharana, Rasayana-Vajikarana and Panchakarma in order to prevent diseases. The complete process of Panchakarma consists of three steps. The preparatory procedure consists of two main processes - Snehan (oleation) and Swedan (fomentation). These methods help to dislodge the accumulated poisonous substances in the body, thus preparing them for their complete removal. Pradhan Karma or the main procedure. ie., administering of vamana, virechana, asthapana, anuvasana and nasya karma. These five procedures meant for internal purification of the body through the nearest possible route. Such purification allows the biological system to return to homeostasis and to rejuvenate rapidly and also facilities the desired pharmacokinetic effect of medicines administered there after. Panchakarma provides a comprehensive therapy role as a promoter, preventive, curative & rehabilitative procedure. This book explains practical methodology of Panchakarmas including popular Keraliya panchakarma. Formulations used in panchakarma are explained with its ingredients helps the practitioner familiar with its mechanism of action. Guidelines are given to practitioners so as to select appropriate panchakarma therapies in a given clinical condition. I am thankful to Sachin Gupta Chowkhamba Sanskrit series office, Varanasi for accepting to publish the book.

Soft cover. Zustand: New. In present era the modern surgical techniques as well as the instruments are getting advanced; new varieties of instruments are designed differently. But the fundamental mechanics and design of the instruments and techniques are tensed to same as before. (From the Stone Age different types of machineries are created by the Homo sapiens.) Our ancient Acharyas gives so many descriptions about instruments by which they can perform the eight different fundamental surgical techniques. Then in this modern civilization that instruments are improvised and newer derivative instruments are created. For ayurvedic student it is very difficult to identify these modernised instrument by Ayurvedic point of view. In this book the author tried to reduce the exhaustion of searching and correlating the surgical instruments mentioned in Ayurveda with the modern science. Every instrument is correlated on the basis of design and on the purpose of use. Every heading of the instruments are describing the length, uses, correlations and descriptions mentioned in Samhitas. The description of the instruments mentioned in the Sushruta samhita, Astanga hridaya, Astanga samgraha, Charaka samhita and other Ayurvedic commentary like Dalhana teeka, Chakrapani teeka are described and the correlations are made. Some descriptions are given as per description mentioned in the ayurvedic texts and on the basis of imagination. Lastly some instruments which are commonly used in different branches of medical sciences are given with ayurvedic correlations; that gives a clear cut idea about the yantra and shastras. Overall the history, present and future of the surgical instruments are discussed in this book. There is no doubt that this book will be very much useful for Ayurvedic students to get ideas about modern surgical instruments and Ayurvedic yantra and shastras.

Soft cover. Zustand: New. From the Foreword: I had a very pleasant experience to go through the text 'Ayurvediya Samskrtam compiled by Prof (Dr) Ghanashyam Dora, Principal, KVS Institute of Ayurvedic Medical Science and Research Centre, Mardapur, Baksupur, Ghazipur (UP), particularly, on the subject 'Sanskrit'. The subject Sanskrit is comprised of four texts - Laghusiddhantkaumudi, Sarirasthanam fourth chapter of Susruta - samhita, Vaidyakiys Subhasita Sahityam and Pancatantram (Apariksitakarakam.) Such an English edition was highly essential for the newly entrants to Ayurvedic course as this compendium has been prescribed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi as a text in Sanskrit (Ayurvedarsa-granthadhyayana-kramah) in the First year BAMS course. This subject is exclusively meant for science based students to acquaint with Sanskrit so as to facilitate them in further studies in Sanskrit based Ayurvedic texts. Prof. Dora, at present working as Principal in my afore said College, has completely expressed the intricacies of Sanskrit based Ayurvedic terms into English. He has already published individually the texts Laghusiddhanta-kaumudi and Vaidyakiys Subhasita Sahityam earlier. The present text is anthology of Laghusiddhantakaumudi Sarirasthanam Fourth chapter of Susrutasamhita and Pancatantram (Apariksitakarakam). Translating Sanskrit into English or other languages is a difficult imposition. Many Universities adopted English as the teaching medium of Ayurveda, thus Prof. Dora made an effort to elucidate the text into comprehensible English language by elaborating the difficult colloquies of Sanskrit terms. The present text is praiseworthy for bringing out such a rare edition and I hope, the text will be highly appreciated by the erudite readers.

Soft cover. Zustand: New. Though there are many translations of Ashtanga Hridaya in English, I dared to do a translation which is student friendly at the request of the publisher. True translations (word to word) will loss the original texture and readability while the free translations exceed limits. Hence, I have decided to do a true translation while maintaining readability by presenting in a lucid manner with a breakup of sentences to get the essence of the sutra briefly. It is also easy to search the topics by simple rotating pages. Subject is not deviated and at the same time certain clarifications are quoted with original words from the commentaries. In case of doubt I have clarified with commentaries and presented the original. This privileged work has been done with a desire to simplify the translation for better understanding by students, in highlighted sentences with minimum elaboration in concise form. Key words are highlighted with etymon and with suitable explanations in notes. In early pages, Sanskrit technical terms are provided with English translations within brackets, however as the book progresses only the Sanskrit terms are used as by then the reader would be familiarized with the Sanskrit terms. Latin words for the drugs are given in appendix to avoid any distraction and improve readability. To understand the yantra shastra shapes, suitable model photos of the present-day use have been given at appropriate places. Important principles in slokas are marked with an asterisk (*) and the slokas to get by heart are marked with double asterisk (**). ** marked quotations would be useful throughout the entire life of an Ayurvedic physician. Information provided in the note of the book is to acquaint the reader with Vagbhata, his work Ashtanga Hridaya Samhita and to enumerate the important features of Ashtanga Hridaya Samhita for utilization in PG exams.
