Technic: Copper print, colorit: original colored, condition: Some folds perfectly restored, size (in cm): 47,5 x 62; - Map shows the western Mediterranean sea with its islands and the norther coast of Africa; History: Numerous paleoanthropological finds, for example from the Arago cave near Perpignan, prove that Homo erectus already lived in the Mediterranean. In the period of several hundred thousand years, the polar ice caps repeatedly expanded, glaciers covered the high mountains during the ice ages. The sea level was therefore temporarily up to 150 meters below today's level. The Strait of Gibraltar temporarily closed. The Stone Age replaced the Stone Age in different regions. Copper spreads first, then bronze. Spain, rich in metals, began around 2300 BC. The Bronze Age (El Argar culture). Numerous fortified settlements were created. The first states emerged with the Pharaoh dynasties around 3000 BC. BC in Egypt. Almost simultaneously, the first city-states were formed on the Levant and Aegean coasts. The great empires of the early days of Assyria, Babylonia and the Hittites - temporarily expanded into the Mediterranean area. Since the archaic period, i.e. from 800 BC BC, ancient Greece also emerged as a trading power and increasingly created competition for the Phoenicians. The Greeks settled as far as the Rhône (Massilia) and the Crimea and set up offices and factories as far as Egypt. Tuscany was the settlement area of the Etruscans, who also controlled the rich iron deposits of Elba. This culture developed from the local Villanova culture, later under strong Greek and Syrian ("oriental") influence. In Rome, the founding of Rome began with the slow but steady rise of the Romans, which began around 500 BC. BC finally emancipated from the Etruscans and founded the republic. The south of the Apennine Peninsula was characterized by the Greek colonies ("Magna Graecia"). At the same time, the Persian empire extended to Egypt and the Bosphorus, subjugating the Phoenicians and the Egyptians. The period of great Persian expansion coincided with the blossoming of Greece, which was able to ward off the Persian invasions in several battles. While the Greeks colonized large parts of the northern Mediterranean coast, the Phoenicians - after (Tire) had lost their independence - built Carthage in North Africa as a new power base and also established commercial branches in Spain (Cadiz), Morocco, Corsica and Sardinia. Sicily was contested between the great powers at that time because of its rich resources and location. In late antiquity, the slow Christianization of the Roman state began, which should have far-reaching consequences, such as the rejection of paganism. The late Middle Ages were characterized by a sustained upswing in the Italian area. Especially the Republic of Venice. The most important naval powers of the early modern period continued to be Venice and Genoa, which dominated trade with the Arab world and thus to Southeast Asia. They also had numerous colonies in the eastern Mediterranean. The War of the Spanish Succession brought about a reorganization of the western and central Mediterranean region in 1713. The French expansion was initially stopped, Spain was reduced to the mainland and the Balearic Islands and the Italian area was redistributed among the rulers. The winner was above all the Habsburg-Austrian line, which also won southern Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Milan. However, this situation did not last long: the Spanish-Bourbon royal family soon regained control of the Italian territory. Most of the Maghreb were now ruled by Berber tribes, which were beyond the control of the Ottoman Empire but neglected the economy. Morocco and Algeria were marginalized economically, which invited the Spaniards to invasions. The Ceuta and Melilla bases are still under Spanish control.

Technic: Copper print, colorit: original colored, condition: Lower margin perfectly restored, size (in cm): 49,5 x 59,5; - Map shows the northern part of Brasil. - additional information: Atlas Maritimus & Commercialis, or a General View of the World; History: The oldest traces of human life were found in the Caverna da Pedra Pintada in the state of Piauí. The early inhabitants fundamentally changed the ecosystem of the Amazon basin by planting certain types of plants and improving the soil. Their settlements - for example on the huge river island of Marajó - were far larger than long thought. In the province of Mato Grosso there were numerous planned locations where fish farming and agriculture were practiced until around 1500. The cities, which were up to 60 hectares in size, were connected by a road network - although in most areas the canoe was the means of transportation - there were dams and artificial ponds. As in many places in America, the people of the Xingu are believed to have been victims of the epidemic, especially smallpox. The indigenous peoples in Brazil lived partly from hunting, fishing and gathering, as well as from the fragile ecosystem of adapted soil management. A large part of the local population died in the course of European colonization, mostly from imported diseases, but also as a result of forced labor or enslavement. The majority of the Indians living outside the rainforest, especially in the cities, were assimilated insofar as they survived violence and epidemics and mingled with European immigrants. Already in 1494 Portugal and Spain decided to divide South America in the Tordesillas Treaty. Because the line had been agreed in ignorance of the coastline of the New World, the (at that time still generally unknown) eastern tip of South America also belonged to Portugal. The prerequisite for a legitimate possession was the consequent catholization of the locals. The period from 1500 to 1530 was marked by bartering with the locals. In 1549, today's Salvador da Bahia (São Salvador da Bahía de Todos os Santos) was named the capital. From 1530, native Indians were brought to the coast from inland who had to do the work on the sugar cane plantations in the northeast. Many of them died because of hard work, persecution, and indigenous susceptibility to European diseases. The colonialists then tried to replace the lost labor with slaves from Africa.

Technic: Copper print, colorit: original colored, condition: Printed on 2 sheets joined together, folds partly restored, size (in cm): 63,5 x 94 cm; - Map shows the whole of Europe with a splendid title cartouche.; History: Especially the Greek culture, the Roman Empire and Christianity left their mark until today. In ancient times, the Roman Empire at the time of Augustus united for the first time the entire southern Europe together with the other coastal countries of the Mediterranean in one great empire. In the Roman Empire, the new religion of Christianity was able to spread rapidly. In the early Middle Ages, the Paderborn Epic declared the ruler of the Frankish Empire, Charlemagne, to be the "Father of Europe." The Middle Ages were marked, among other things, by competition between the new Roman emperor in the West and the Byzantine emperor in Constantinople, in the East, to whose two spheres of influence the later deepened division into a Western and Eastern Europe can be traced. Since the 15th century, European nations (especially Spain, Portugal, Russia, the Netherlands, France, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) built colonial empires with large possessions on all other continents. Europe is the continent that has influenced the other continents the most, for example, through Christian missionary work, colonies, slave trade, exchange of goods and culture. n the 18th century, the Enlightenment movement set new directions and demanded tolerance, respect for human dignity, equality and freedom. In France, the French Revolution brought the bourgeoisie to power in 1789. In the early 19th century, half of Europe had to conform to the will of Napoleon, the French emperor who came to power after the revolutionary period, until he suffered a fiasco in Russia in 1812. The conservative victorious powers then tried to restore pre-revolutionary conditions at the Congress of Vienna, which succeeded only temporarily. Industrialization began in parts of Europe in the 18th century and rapidly changed the everyday lives of broad sections of the population.

Denmark is officially called the Kingdom of Denmark along with the Faroe Islands, which geographically belong to Northern Europe, like the mother country, and Greenland, which belongs to North America. The Danish people are said to have come from Scania to Jutland and the western Baltic islands in the 6th century, where they displaced other Germanic tribes. In the 10th century, Gorm the Old (around 950) united the individual minor kingdoms under his rule. Until 1035, when Knut the Great died, the Danish kings succeeded in conquering large parts of the British Isles. Until well into the 11th century, the Danes, Swedes and Norwegians, among others, were called Vikings, who founded colonies and traded throughout Europe. The only land border is between Denmark and Germany. A Danish minority lives in the former Danish southern Schleswig. With the Kalmar Union, Halland was suddenly in the center of the Danish Empire and, according to the Union Treaty, Erich of Pomerania should have been crowned in Halmstad. In the period that followed, Halland was not spared the wars of the era. In 1434, the landscape was conquered by the fighters of the Engelbrekt uprising and the Falkenberg castle was burned down. In the course of the Three Crown War, the Battle of Axtorna (also: Battle on the Falkenberger Haide) took place here in 1565, during which the Danish general Rantzau defeated a superior Swedish army. Until 1645 Halland belonged to Denmark and was then awarded in the peace of Brömsebro to Sweden for 30 years. Since the Peace of Roskilde in 1658, Halland has finally belonged to Sweden, although Denmark tried again in the Schoen War (1675?1679) to recapture lost territory.
