Recapping modeling technology. 4. Data requirements and conceptual model design. 5. Model design and execution. 6. Model Calibration Process and predication issues. 7. Modeling Groundwater Flow System case studies. 8. Mass transport modeling case studies. 9. Modeling Fracture Flow System. 10. Model applications. 11. Groundwater contamination restoration and management. References. Index. The over exploitation of groundwater resources has resulted in long term continuous decline of water level in many parts of India and elsewhere for the last many decades. This has resulted in the deterioration of water quality and the widespread drying up of wells in monsoon climatic regions due to failure of the monsoon. It is thus imperative that effective management of groundwater resources is essential and it requires firstly a good understanding of the aquifer system secondly that practical measures to control abstraction can be identified and thirdly augment groundwater resources through artificial recharge. It is therefore essential to quantify the response of the aquifer under study to different input output stresses. Groundwater modeling study has proved to be potential tool to study the aquifer response and thereby to evolve appropriate management schemes. The present book is the improved version of the earlier book on regional groundwater modeling by incorporating both the basic theory (aquifer and its characteristics mathematical formulation solution techniques data requirements model conceptualization model construction and calibration procedures and sensitivity analysis) and model application to assess the groundwater potential and pollution potential. This book is written under the utilization of retired scientist scheme of Department of Science and Technology Govt. of India New Delhi. 382 pp.

Hardcover. Zustand: As New. Contents: Preface. 1. Modelling with earth science data. 2. Models for different types of deposit. 3. Geochemical exploration of mineral deposits. 4. Different types of geochemical explorations. 5. Non-conventional techniques for concealed deposits. 6. Standard analytical methods for geo-samples. 7. Suggestions for future work. Appendix. References. Index. "Potential mineral belts in global perspective in different geotectonic frame have been discussed in the book to suggest new mineral belts for modelling and geochemical exploration. Under such conditions, be it for land deposit or offshore deposit, application of statistical methods with qualitative and, wherever possible, quantitative earth science data for evaluation of mineral resources has become common in recent times. Computer-based mineral deposit modelling is the best suitable way out for predicting concealed mineralisation. Computerized approaches adopted for this has been discussed with Indian examples. However, the main objective of modelling is to delineate the body geometry of the deposit in three dimensions. The author's endeavour here is to compile the different conventional and non-conventional techniques of exploration geochemistry, giving more emphasis to concealed mineral deposits. This book is written in a manner to serve as guide to field geologists, geochemists, students, research scholars and scientists interested in earth science for exploration of mineral deposits and for evaluation of their resources.".

Conservation of natural resources through sustainable ecosystem management and development is the key to our secured future. The management of ecosystem involves inventory and monitoring and applying integrated technologies methodologies interdisciplinary approaches for its conservation. Hence now it is even more critical than ever before for mankind to be environmentally literate. To realize this vision both ecological and environmental education must become a fundamental part of the system at all levels of education. Environmental education focusing on real world contexts and issues often begins close to home encouraging learners to forge connections with and understand their immediate surroundings. The awareness knowledge and skill needed for these local connections and understandings provide a base for moving out into larger systems broader issues and a more sophisticated comprehension of causes connections and consequences. Thus environmental education will certainly help us to recognise the importance of investigating the environment within the context of human influences incorporating an examination of economics culture political structure and social equity as well as natural processes and systems. The ultimate goal of environmental education is to develop an environmentally literate public. It needs to address the connection between our conception and practice of education and our relationship as human cultures to life sustaining ecological systems. For each environmental issue there are many perspectives and much uncertainty. Environmental education cultivates the ability to recognise uncertainty envision alternative scenarios and adapt to changing conditions and information. This knowledge skill and mindset translate into a citizenry who is better equipped to address its common problems and take advantage of opportunities whether environmental conce.

Hardcover. Zustand: As New. Contents: Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. Andaman-Nicobar Islands: geological setting and earlier works. 3. The Neogene: lithologic succession. 4. Biostratigraphic classification. 5. Chronostratigraphic divisions. 6. Neogene environment. Bibliography. Index. About the authors. "This book synthesizes research conducted by the authors and their coworkers on the Neogene of Andaman-Nicobar for well over four decades. The sequences on Andaman Nicobar Islands are important because of their strategic position in the Northern Indian Ocean, an area where few other good Neogene marine sequences exist except for DSDP and ODP sections. The main objective of this book is to put together all the data in one volume in order to gear researchers, graduate and postdoctoral students to use these fundamental data for better understanding the evolution of this active tectonic belt and to explore hydrocarbon possibilities in this region. It comprises, besides an introductory part, a detailed account on the Neogene lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and Chronostratigraphy. It is supplemented by a large number of outcrop profiles and tables summarizing the large volume of data. The book also includes a chapter on the Neogene environment dealing with changing paleobathymetric trends concomitant with vigorous seafloor tectonism in the Andaman Sea Region. Stratigraphers and micropaleontologists in industry, academia and research laboratories as well as students will find the book an invaluable aid during exploration in this region.".
