DJ is in a plastic sleeve and has wear, soiling, tears and chips. Gladys Louise Smith (April 8, 1892 - May 29, 1979), known professionally as Mary Pickford, was a Canadian-born film actress and producer. With a career spanning 50 years, she was a co-founder of both the Pickford-Fairbanks Studio and, later, the United Artists studio, and one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who present the yearly "Oscar" award ceremony. Pickford was known in her prime as "America's Sweetheart" and the "girl with the curls". She was one of the Canadian pioneers in early Hollywood. Pickford was one of the earliest stars to be billed under her own name, and was one of the most popular actresses of the 1910s and 1920s. She was awarded the second ever Academy Award for Best Actress for her first sound-film role in Coquette (1929) and also received an honorary Academy Award in 1976. Mary Pickford's "My Rendezvous with Life" was her sequel, of sorts, to her earlier best-seller, "Why Not Try God?". This is in the form of an essay. "My Rendezvous with Life" presents Mary Pickford's thoughts on what it is to lose a loved one, and why she believes that there is an afterlife in which we may be reunited with those we have lost. It is a non-denominational approach, and one that displays great care and understanding of the enduring ache that people feel when they experience the death of a loved one. But Pickford's approach to death is not the dose of sentimental syrup that we might expect from "America's Sweetheart." Instead she finds reason why we should face death without tears and wailing. She also details, from several points of view, the compelling reasons she has found for believing in a life beyond death. Her ideas are thoughtful, and winningly presented. "My Rendezvous with Life" is a hopeful, comforting book about challenges we all have to face in this journey that is our lives. First Edition [stated], presumed first printing.
