Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A critical discussion of James Dunn's influential analysis of the doctrine of baptism in the Holy Spirit, written from a Pentecostalist perspective.Offering a clear understanding of the doctrine of baptism in the Holy Spirit. In the Seventies, James Dunn's publication of Baptism in the Holy Spirit gave rise to a heated debate within Pentecostals' milieu. Atkinson brings his contribution to the discussion and undertakes the job of synthesizing, evaluating and reviewing the key elements of the debate, with respect to Luke-Acts. Atkinson concludes that Pentecostals are right: for Luke, receiving the Spirit was not the inception of new covenant life; it was a powerful enabling for prophecy and miracles; for the church's outward mission and its internal life.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - An examination of the centrality of storytelling to the Christian faith and how stories offer a fruitful yet under-utilised resource for theological expression.According to Song, the Christian faith is deeply rooted in storytelling: stories are the most basic mode of human communication and, in the same idea, the Christian Bible is fundamentally a story. Though, Song regrets the fact that Christians, and above all Christian theologians, so often fail to express their faith in term of stories. Christian theology is most often expressed in terms of concepts, ideas, and systems. Following the conviction that this is the most appropriate way to express our faith, the proposal of this book is to speak of Christian faith and theology through stories rather than systems and texts.…

Neuware - An exploration of the origins and development of four great Christian spiritual traditions - monasticism, mendicancy, apostolic ministry and missionary life.In this helpful and insightful book, Nicki Verploegen delves into the two thousand years of history of the Catholic Church in order to unfold the development of spiritualities in Christianity. Verploegen explores how four distinct types of Christian spirituality evolved and rose to prominence in its religious, social, and political environments: monasticism, mendicancy, apostolic ministry, and missionary life. All of them became 'schools' of spiritual formation which gave rise to the development of numerous religious communities. This book is also an exploration of thirteen of these distinct communities, and introduces the reader to the spiritual men and women who initiated the religious movements and founded them.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A critical analysis of Luke 7:18-35 that offers an intriguing answer to the problematic question of John the Baptist: 'Are you the one who is to come '.The study argues that the tradition in Matthew 11:2-19 and Luke 7:18-35 deserves to be interpreted differently in the Gospel of Luke and explains how Luke integrates John's apparent ignorance of Jesus as well as Jesus' indictment of the religious leaders into his literary scheme. Finally, Martínez shows how Luke puts this tradition about John and Jesus at the service of his theocentric and christological perspectives and offers an alternative explanation to the prevailing interpretation of John's question.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - An examination of the lives and practices of the two most prominent preachers of the 18th-century evangelical revival, emphasising their affinities. The proposal of this book is to guide the reader to the contrastive ministries of the two most dominant preachers of the eighteen-century evangelical revival. In a wonderful comparative approach the author draws John Wesley and George Whitefield's portraits and explores their life and practice, as well as their relationship. Committed to the principle that the 'whole world was their parish', Wesley and Whitefield manifested their singular desire to be men of one book through preaching ministries that were equally committed to the spread of the gospel throughout the transatlantic world.…
