Original Wraps. Zustand: Near Fine. First Edition. First Edition. Original Wraps. The series of colour photographs Naked in the Gallery offers an intimate and extravagant look at an unsuspected side of an art space. Shot after hours at each of the gallery's exhibitions, these portraits chronicle the life of Bongoût gallery since its opening in 2008. Christian Gfeller, artist, gallerist and curator invited nude models to be inspired by the artworks. The unconventional models redefine conventional notions of beauty as they display their bodies with confidence. In striking poses and looks, the artist captures the models' strong personalities and the energy and dynamic relations prompted by the exhibitions. The models and photographer reclaim the gallery as a space for expression and interaction. First Edition. Octavo. 22cm. Publisher's illustrated paper covered boards. 236pp. + [2]. Slight wear to the bottom front corner, a little rubbing and scuffing of the glossy boards; internally clean and fresh; a very good copy indeed. A lavish and beautifully produced exploration of Merritt's photographic vision, in which autobiographical snippets of her own career as a photographer and model are interspersed with luxuriously technicolor closeup images of sex, spiders, and dissected flowers until the glossyness of latex, leather and arachnid eyes, and the lush fleshyness of orchids and genitals all flow together and become incidental images of different stopping points on the same research expedition.

Signed Limited Edition. Octavo. 22.5cm. Signed Limited Edition; #28 of 125. Publisher's rather lurid printed card booklets, sewn bound at the spine into one volume. 44pp. In original grey card box with paper label to front, and additional page of signed and numbered artwork, as issued. Very light wear to the box. A very good clean copy indeed. "Kikifruit" is a deeply eccentric artist operating out of Poitiers, France, working in a number of different fields including figurative art, complex, surreal Japanese sci-fi inspired pieces (as here, where the narrative follows a group of 1980's inspired, uniformed women abducting, and erotically persecuting, other women - apparently in the service of a mysterious glowing triangle), and music, along with small run home grown zines. His work often displays repeated motifs; heavy, edgy bdsm-inspired eroticism, clowns, and street people feature heavily. Published by the anarchic Editions Bongout, originally a French art publishing project who decamped from France to Berlin in the early 2000's and who specialize in producing provocative, divisive, and seditious artworks, usually in small limitations. At the time of cataloguing they have somewhat disappeared off the radar and a dwindling number of pieces by various artists are available from third party distributors. Scarce and obscure. Signed.
