Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. First edition. First Edition. Near Fine, only the slightest wear. Mass Market Paperback, cover art by Paul Alexander. The assassin known as Algorithm has arrived on a seedy pleasure colony on the edge of the galactic Federation. Gawron, born in France, is an expert on the writings of Samuel R. Delany. This speculative novel is an intellectual space opera and formative example of Cyberpunk. It also develops expansive ideas of linguistics, Gawron being a member of the Department of Linguistics at San Diego State University, with PhD in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. "Algorithm" has been compared to William Burroughs' "Naked Lunch," Gene Wolf's "Long Sun," and Chip Delaney's "Dahlgren," and Delaney himself called the novel "witty, heartstomping, and moving." Gawron only wrote three SF novels or he'd probably be a whole lot better known.

This chapter deals with cognitive development in prehistory from the perspective of Jean Piaget's genetic epistemology, apply- ing concepts such as the concept of sensory-motor intelligence, preoperational thought, and operational thought to the early development of human intelligence. Following some introductory re- marks on the application of genetic epistemology in cross-cultural and historic comparisons, the origin of man and the Neolithic and the Urban Revolution will be examined. Finally, the chapter will conclude with a review of genetic epistemology and prehistory [.]. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
Paperback. Zustand: GOOD. First Edition. SIGNED by Gene Wolfe on the title page, inscribed 'To Alan.' First Printing, a paperback original. [6], 7-208pp. Spine leaning, tips a bit worn and a small dampstain to the front cover at head, light crease to spine, front wrapper creased near spine, otherwise clean and unmarked with sound, uncracked binding. First written in 1965, Operation Ares depicts a distopian future in which an authoritarian leftist dictatorship has overseen a Unites States 'slipping into a primitive past, turning its back on technology--and abandoning its Martian colony.' In a twist on the 'Mars Attacks' trope, it is human Martians who attempt to conquer earth and are abbetted by an obscure teacher named John Castle. Wolfe's first novel, a 'generally undistinguished' effort (Larry McCaffery). In an interview with Melissa Mia Hall in 2007, Wolfe stated, 'I don't think Operation Ares is a very good novel . I wasn't really skillful enough to write a good novel.' (Shadows of the New Sun: Wolfe on Writing/Writers on Wolfe, p. 41) Its mediocrity is to blame for its current scarcity; even unsigned it is not a common book. Signed.
