The author wrote in their individual capacities but were both associated with the UK's Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM). This group provides independent scrutiny and advice to the UK governments on the long-term management of higher activity radioactive wastes. This study assessed approahes to the long-term management of civil separated plutonium in the UK. A large stockpile of civil separated plutonium had been built up, most of it stored as oxide powder at Britich Nuclear Fuels' Sellafield site in Cumbria. There was consideration within the UK to shife away from indefinite storage of separated plutonium, in faor of strategies that entailed production of plutonium waste forms. The term 'plutonium disposition' was applied to these strategies. The purpose of this studye was to identify plutonium dispositon strategies which would be cost-effective in the UK, in the sense of securing timely proliferation resistance and waste management improvements at costs which were commensurate with those improvements.…

Author Richard Hayward (1892 - 1964) was a British film actor, writer and musician. Life and career Born in Southport, Lancashire, his family moved to Ireland when he was a baby. Hayward was an enthusiast for all Ulster regional popular culture. He was a member of the Orange Order, to which he dedicated much time. After a period working at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin he helped form the Belfast Repertory Theatre Company. He was a popular singer in the forties and fifties. His career meant he lived a typical theatrical lifestyle being constantly on the move. Hayward wrote a number of travel books about Ireland, exploring every county. He was closely associated with the Belfast Naturalists' Field Club, serving as its president in 1951. "Sugarhouse Entry", the story of a farming community at Gortloughan in the Co. Down countryside, was his first novel. Sugarhouse Entry is a historic alleyway in Belfast, Northern Ireland, that connects High Street and Waring Street in the Cathedral Quarter. Closed for over 50 years for security reasons, it reopened in 2024. The entry was most famous for being the site of Peggy Barclay's "Dr Franklin Tavern", the regular meeting place of the Society of United Irishmen. Formed in 1791 in the Crown Tavern on the opposite side of High Street, the society that vowed to unite Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter to rid Ireland of the British, initially met in the open.…

It appears to have been done perhaps in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century with five raised bands and labels on the second and fourth (from top) compartments and gold stamped decorations in the other compartments. The two front and two rear end papers have been replaced. The front free paper is creased along the fold and top two inches are torn, but the rest of the page is still attached. ; Volume 1 only of a three volume set. This volume consists of 12 chapters, including his "History of Gardening" which is considered the first comprehensive written history of gardening in England, essays on the importance of precipitation and sunlight on vegetation, directions in raising trees, planting instructions and embellishments in country gardens. At the end of the book is a 16 page index of the first volume. There are two copper plates in this volume- frontispiece illustation of a nobleman's garden and a five fold plate (four vertical folds and one horizontal fold) opposite page 283. The plates are in nice shape- the folding plate is complete with no tears. ; frontispiece and fold-out plate; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xlv, 352, [16] p. pages; A previous owner has written extensive notes (mostly in ink) on the end pages and in the margins of many of the pages of the text. The notations refer to planting instructions, classical writings referred to by Switzer and also the writer's own views on nature and gardening.
