Martin Buber (1878 1965) and internationally acclaimed German Philosopher had brought to focus a new revolutionary trend in the field of philosophy and education. He excelled in dealing with the existential problems of the reality from the existential philosophers of repute like Kierkgaard Nietzech Dosto evsky and Sartre. His basic thrust is salvation of the modern age form its chaotic conditions is in the uplifting of the dialogical relations i.e. inter human relations at the concrete level of the date to day lived in life of the people. The fundamental aim of education Buber stresses that should be in developing the humanners in the youth that could be attained mainly though inter human relations which is utterly lacking in both the traditional and modern education. There is an urgent and great need of this aim to be adopted in the present educational systems to develop an ideal society of co operative peaceful and happy co existence. 132 pp.

Sources of income. 6. Problems in raising the income. 7. Summary conclusions and strategies. Bibliography. Appendix. The problem of ageing relates both to the individual and that of the nation. Old age is now generally recognized as one of the most pressing problems of the society. The change in the demographic position form high growth potential to decrease in population growth has further created new problems about elderly generation the result of increasing proportion of the old in the population. The process of modernization and industrialization has reduced the role of the family in looking after the aged and the state is forced to step into this vaccum to provide support to the aged. The growing proportion of the elderly is forcing all the societies to take notice of the aged and their problems and work out solutions to mitigate their difficulties. Major problems faced by the aged in India includes Income security health and personel care and social and emotional security. Among them the problem of income security is the most important one. In this volume an attempt was made to identify the problems encountered by the aged. Income security and suggestions to reduce their problems and enhance their income so as to enable them to lead a better quality life. 150 pp.

Summary and conclusions. Bibliography. Appendix. Family is the basic unit of society and is a living and evolving institution affected by several external factors. These factors vary from region to region and become the driving forces in creating new family structures. Indian family is not an exception to this phenomenon. One of the important changes in the family since 1950s has been the emergence of one parent families more specifically women headed families. These families though equated with single parent house holds differ from them in many ways. Women headed households are usually formed because of widowhood divorce separation and abandonment. Migration of husbands for a considerable period of time and husband's loss of earning power due to ill health disability also form major contributing factors for the formation of such households. Throughout the world the number of women heading households is on the rise. In India the death of the husband is one of the frequent causes of women headed households. I am sure the book will be useful to students and scholars in family studies in understanding the growing phenomenon of women headed families in Indian context. 152 pp.

However, one topic that is invariably included in any textbook on quantitative ecology is population dynamics. This book attempts to present in a systematic way the most common and elementary models of population growth. In this book the term population is used in a very general sense and hence the models can be applied to study the evolution of any type of biological organism. In each chapter the models are arranged in the order of mathematical complexity. The first chapter presents an overview of mathematical models and their characteristics. Chapter 2 discusses at length various discrete models of population growth. While chapter 3 discusses the classical deterministic models, chapter 4 includes extensions and recent modifications of the models presented in the previous chapter. The qualitative solutions of the models, which are sometimes more valuable and useful than quantitative solutions, are included in chapter 5. Properties of the logistic map, bifurcation diagrams, feigenbaum constant, an introduction to chaos and Lyapunov exponent are some of the topics covered in this chapter. Chapter 6 is devoted to classical models of interaction between two different species. Chapter 7 presents models on human and plant epidemiology. Finally, chapter 8 presents an introduction to stochastic models. The pre-requisites assumed are knowledge in difference equations, differential equations, matrix algebra and probability theory. A unique feature of the book is the inclusion of MATLAB M-files at the end of each chapter. These programs will definitely facilitate the reader to gain greater depth of knowledge about the models discussed in the respective chapter and obtain not only numerical solutions but also graphical understanding. The book can be prescribed for one semester course for postgraduate students or as an elective subject at advanced undergraduate level. The lucid presentation of the mathematical models interweaved with MATLAB programs would make this book an ideal one for the graduate and postgraduate students specializing in quantitative biology.".

Powdery mildews are the group of obligate parasitic and biotrophic fungi on wide host range of plants cause heavy damage to them. Much work has been done on the powdery mildews of cultivated plants. These fungi exhibit their Anamorph or conidial stages in the tropic and produce their sexual or perithecial stages or telemorphs in the temperate regions. Fortunately India harbours all the climatic conditions and geographical regions of the world and helps to produce telemorphs in Himalayan region and anamorphs in the Peninsular region. One of the authors (VBH) is engaged in the study of the Foliicolous fungi on forest and garden plants in Southern India especially in the Western Ghats region. The other author (DKA) worked on the fungal diseases of cultivated crop plants in the Northern region of India. Both these authors have worked for more than three decades on this group of fungi published several papers in the nationally and intentionally reputed journals. Likewise good number of publications of powdery mildews on cultivated crops weeds garden and ornamental plants forest plants have appeared. In spite of all these we do not have a monograph of Powdery Mildews of India to identify these fungi with certainty. Till then the present work forms a ready reckoner in the identification of powdery mildews of India. 106 pp.

Degradation of the forests and land resources, frequent flash floods, soil erosion/landslides, marching deserts, acid rains, green house effect and loss of protective cover of ozone layer are but a few manifestations of our insensitivity to environment and ecology. This situation is also not much better in India. Pressure of growing human and livestock population on our forests/pastures and man's greed for more industrialisation for material prosperity, have resulted in relentless exploitation of natural resources and degradation of forests. Pollution is yet another threat to the environment. The increased traffic and industrial activities cause pollution of air and water. These days, we breathe in more carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and harmful materials than permissible limits. Untreated municipal/industrial wastes, when discharged into waterbodies, pollute the drinking water and increase mortality of fish and other aquatic life forms. The environmental degradation of Indian states falling under the Himalayas is also on the increase. The environment of Jammu and Kashmir Himalayas has been very much degraded. The Government of India has formulated certain laws to tackle with various environmental and pollution problems. Now the time has come to deal with this situation more firmly in Jammu and Kashmir Himalayan region too. Environmental Degradation of Jammu and Kashmir Himalayas and their Control, highlights all these problems and their solutions in 15 chapters. In chapters I, II and III, the causes of deforestation, degradation of land and pastures, their control measures and hazards have been described. Causes of soil erosion, floods and landslides and methods to control them and hazards are given in chapters IV, V and VI. Chapter VII deals in the perishing plant species of lower middle and high Himalayas and control measures to save plants from extinction. A brief account of wildlife of lower, middle and high Himalayas, wildlife, environment and endangered species and methods for protection of wildlife has been given in chapter VIII. Sources of air pollution and its impact on the health of human beings, animals and damage to plant kingdom and economic effects, are detailed in chapter IX along with control measures and global warming/green house effect and impact of acid rains. In chapter X, checking vehicular pollution, a brief scenario of vehicles of India and Jammu, hazards of vehicular pollution and control measures have been stated. Chapters XI and XII devote on water pollution and its control and control of noise pollution with main topics of water pollutants, their harmful effects and control and control of noise pollution, its hazards and remedies. Main factors or sources causing soil pollution, its harmful effects and control measures are narrated in chapter XIII, while food poisoning and contamination, microbial/natural toxins, chemical pollutants, food-borne infections, pesticide contamination, radioactive substances, food additives, food adulteration and food fortification, control and preventive measures, are given in chapter XIV. Concept of agroforestry, agroforestry systems and agroforestry and environment, are detailed in chapter XV. At the end of every chapter, control measures, priorities and suggestions for future development are presented.".

This book is the result of a research project Opportunities and Challenges for Women in Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) sector a study in Bangalore sponsored by ICSSR New Delhi. This book focuses on the growth and features of Information Technology Enabled Services Sector in India. In this book an attempt is made to examine the opportunities and challenges of ITES work with special reference to women employees. Due to the recency of the ITES sector in India we know little about the nature and quality of the work that takes place within them. Very few in depth empirical studies have been carried out so far by academic researchers. This study therefore makes an important contribution to our knowledge of this new form of employment. 130 pp.

The book Economics of Tribal Primary Education is an attempt to focus on the crucial problems of grade repetition dropouts and non enrolment rates in the universalization process of tribal and non tribal primary education in Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. An attempt has been made in this study to enquire into the nature and extent of wastage in the form of transitional flows of pupils from class I to V. Assuming that the problem embodies in itself locality specific features taking the form of socio cultural conditions and the long run educational ethos the study focused on their relevance for improving rates of retention and minimizing wastage. The book helps to planners and administrators in the estimation of comparative degree and extent of wastage in terms of money worked out from an analysis of cross sectional data. This study reveals that the grater difference in pupil teacher ratio the wastage is more in the tribal primary schools than the non primary schools. The greater potential in tribal schools could be utilized for improving retention rates without much financial commitment. Administrators and policy makers need to redefine their objectives if primary education has to contribute maximum to economic development. 178 pp.
