An earlier edition Radar System Analysis was published in 1964 that was originally part of th…e Prentice-Hall Microwaves and Fields series and their Electrical Engineering series. This new version has been printed to provide copies to engineers who have newly entered the radar system field and also to correct both substantive and typographical errors in the original. David Knox Barton (born 1927 in Greenwich, Connecticut) is an American radar systems engineer who has made significant contributions to air defense, missile guidance, monopulse radar, low-altitude tracking, air traffic control, and early warning radar. He had authored or edited a well-regarded series of reference books on radar engineering in the late 1970s. David Barton was one of the people behind the MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system. He was a consulting scientist with Raytheon for at least part of his distinguished career. System analysis is a problem-solving technique that breaks down a system into its component pieces for the purpose of the studying how well those component parts work and interact to accomplish their purpose. The field of system analysis relates closely to requirements analysis or to operations research. The terms analysis and synthesis stem from Greek, meaning "to take apart" and "to put together," respectively. These terms are used in many scientific disciplines, such as mathematics and logic, to denote similar investigative procedures. Analysis is defined as "the procedure by which we break down an intellectual or substantial whole into parts," while synthesis means "the procedure by which we combine separate elements or components in order to form a coherent whole." System analysis researchers apply methodology to the systems involved, forming an overall picture. System analysis is used in every field where something is developed. Eli Brookner is a global radar authority known for his contributions to airborne, intelligence, space, air-traffic control and defe…nse mission systems. Among his accomplishments is his leadership in designing advanced airport surveillance radars. A principal engineering fellow at Raytheon Company's Integrated Defense Systems, Dr. Brookner has played a key role in many major radar and phased-array radar systems developed during the past 40 years. At Raytheon, he has been a leader or advisor to over 20 major radar programs for civil and defense applications. During these programs he demonstrated exceptional technical leadership. From 1972 to 1989, he was the technical lead on virtually all major U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy space-based radar studies. He was a key systems engineer for the development of the solid-state Airport Surface Detection Equipment Radar, which observes moving and stationary aircraft and vehicular traffic at airports. An IEEE Life Fellow, Dr. Brookner has twice been chairman of the International Symposium on Phased Array Systems and Technology. He is the recipient of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) Warren White Award for Excellence in Radar Engineering, an IEEE Centennial Medal and an IEEE Millennium Medal, the IEEE Educational Activities Board Meritorious Achievement Award and is a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE AESS. Among the authors are scientists and technologists from Raytheon, MITRE, RCA, Naval Research Laboratory, Texas Instruments, RCA, Lincoln Laboratory, Bendix Communications Company and Motorola, Inc. This copy belonged to Ray Hale (address label on fep). This is believed to be Ralph C. Hale, who was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II (1942-1946). He was a technologies and was a member and Past Commander of the Norwood American Legion Post 70 from 1982-1983.

Torrieri is an author and researcher in the area of spread-spectrum communications. He is a research engineer and Fellow of the US Army Re…search Laboratory. His primary research interests are communication systems, adaptive arrays, and signal processing. His previous employment includes work on electronic systems at the Naval Research Laboratory. Since 1977, he has been employed by the U.S. Army, starting with the Army Countermeasures/Counter-Countermeasures Center. Don J. Torrieri received the B.S. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, the MS. degree from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, Farmingdale, and the Ph.D. degree in electrophysics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Torrieri is a Senior Member of the IEEE. His awards include the Best Paper Award of the 1991 IEEE Military Communications Conference. He received the Military Communications Conference achievement award for sustained contributions to the field in 2004. This is a guide to the principles and use of military communication systems, which as the preface points out are designed for use in hostile environments, and often subject to counter-intelligence efforts.
