C. Alston, who was also the publisher of Scolar Press. His full name was Robin Carfrae Alston (1933-2011). The recipient, "Stan", may well be Alston's colleague the linguist Stanley Ellis (1926- 2009) at Leeds University. Both Alston and Ellis held positions in the School of English at the university in the post-war period. Wikipedia has substantial articles on Alston and Ellis, and the Oxford DNB has a robust article on Alston, written by the renowned scholar David McKitterick, very good condition, Printed For The Author by E.
