Samuel Ayscough (1745-1804), was the assistant to the principal librarian of the British Museum and was affectionately known as the "prince of index makers" (ODNB). The works of Samuel Ayscough and his peers "were monuments of lexicographic labour, sc…holarship, and erudition in their own right" (Shore, p. 113). Newspaper clipping on Othello mounted to front pastedown. A few marks to covers, scuff to front cover sometime neatly repaired, front inner hinge split but sound, occasional spot of foxing, slight creases and single closed tear to final leaves. A very good copy.
