Published in Scarborough in 1816, this is the First Edition of this scarce early book looking at the fossils and minerals of the Yorkshire Coast area from Scarborough to Port Mulgrave. Bound in a handsome recent quarter leather binding with marbled paper covered boards, with matching slipcase, the book is illustrated with an extra engrave title page, and six plates, one folding, five are hand coloured. 316 pages plus the corrigenda page. The binding and slipcase are in excellent condition. Internally the half title page is noticeably browned and creased, and has professional strengthening repair to its ragged edges (see pictures) some noticeable creasing wear within to some pages, with occasional marks and foxing spots, foxing to the plates, the protective tissue guards to the plates are noticeably creased, the rear index pages are noticeably creased with some marking, last page heavily creased with some edge strengthening repairs, else overall contents are in good acceptable condition.
