Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The book investigates spatial practices at the ground level of Beirut - Appropriation, Commoning, Production, and Activism - that fill the gap between the city's capital-driven development and the aspirations and needs of its inhabitants, in search for cohabitation and planning lessons that withstand chaos and uncertainty. Through such practices, the book reflects on the ground's project for collectivity reclaiming it as the backbone for co-producing the city.Unique in its context, Beirut has been an ideal laboratory for social practices that characterize its urban culture and shape the experience of the city at ground level. These spontaneous practices fill the gap between the city's capital-driven development and the aspirations/ needs of its inhabitants, transforming Beirut's ground into a symbiotic environment of cohabitation, as a confrontation to alienating trends that shaped Beirut in its recent history, and as a response to the financial/health/ humanitarian crises that have been enchaining the city since 2019.This book examines specifically four spatial practices Appropriation, Commoning, Production, and Activism - in how they inform and transform the diverse urban morphologies of the city from built matter to cultural organization. Through expansive visual and written narrations, the book constructs a graphical analysis of each practice, its materialization on the ground, its shaping of experience, and its impact on Beirut's urban transformation through the shifts that the city continues to endure.Central to the research is an extensive exploration of urban and architectural taxonomies that characterize the ground level of the city at multiple scales and through different time frames. Organized in four topical chapters, the work reflects on and analyzes each practice through specific methods, such as comparative urban sampling, typological cataloging, time-based mapping, and analytical drawings.Furthermore, the book includes a collection of essays by various authors, introducing a diverse set of views that reflect on the political project of the ground as the backbone for collective life , and the need to revisit operative and projective tools for intervention to reclaim it as a public realm. The work thus presents the tension between ground form In Beirut and its appropriation through the different spatial practices. It offers lessons of adaptation and planning for an uncertain future and helps rethink the ground of the city as the common denominator for collectivity and co-producing the city.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - /People?explores how individuals can work across multiple disciplines instead of following a single, specialized path.Based on over 15 years of research at the Architectural Association's Interprofessional Studio, the book introduces the idea of "/People" as a new way to describe creatives who move between architecture, design, performance, and other fields. It presents case studies, methods, and practical examples that show how combining skills from different areas can lead to new ideas and professional opportunities.Instead of focusing on one discipline,?/People?looks at how knowledge from different fields can be combined to create new ways of working. It examines how objects take on meaning through use, how people collaborate effectively, and how creative work connects to broader social and professional contexts. The book provides insights for those interested in expanding their practice, including professionals, educators, and students, offering tools to navigate a world where creativity is increasingly shaped by different influences and perspectives. With Contributions (Co-Authors) of David Greene, Miraj Ahmed, Robin Hunt, Portia Kamons, Albena Yaneva, Graham Harman, Amr Assaad.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - How can we design the architecture of metabolism How can architecture redefine resources, produce nutrients and contribute to regenerate land and protect communities at risk Building Metabolism aims to reveal how architecture constructs, distributes, and leverages power via material recycling, interspecies alliances, biopolitics and excremental processes. This book, stemming from the expanded work produced for the 2022 Tallinn Architecture Biennalethemed EDIBLE and curated by the authorsreimagines the "home" on both domestic and planetary scales as a digestive system, processing human output in its various forms and converting it into actionable resources. This portrayal of the "home" urges readers to look at resources in a visceral way; via the raw ecologies of our bodies and the understanding that the social problems related to climate justice are not simply statistical, abstract, and disembodied. Instead, they are intertwined with our own production and living processes, and they are landed on bodies: on the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.Envisioning an architecture that produces resources, digests its waste, and decomposes itself, Building Metabolism challenges the extractive, consumptive, and contaminating logics of the built environment.Moving beyond an understanding of metabolism as a collection of inhabitable machineswhich is a reading that carries the heavy burden of modernismthe book explores metabolism as patterns of energy and material generation and distribution within a multiverse. This reality does not tolerate traditional dichotomies of nature and artifice, humans and non-humans, resource, and waste; rather, it urges the emergence of a novel network of life and death and alternative forms of matter, including non-human agents, but also technological and cultural others.Building Metabolism aims to explore the potential of all natural and technological expressions to mitigate the contaminating and extracting nature of our desires and protocols related to the production of the built environment. With Contributions ofLydia Kallipoliti, Areti Markopoulou, Andrés Jaque, Mark Wigley, Barbara Penner, Design Earth, Lateral Office, and Feifei Zhou among others.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A radical retrospective that dissects 25 years of architectural production through 58 built projects and 30 provocative texts of BROISSIN Architects. This book resists conventionit questions, dismantles, and reveals the friction behind the polished surface of success. An architecture that emerges from silence, irony, and a fierce commitment to consciousness. xxThis is not just an architecture book. It's a rift. An uncomfortable whisper between the walls of 25 years of practice. Here, 58 built projects are presented, arranged with the logic of time. But between every line and every drawing, something else slips through: a suspicion. A resistance. An unresolved question. Thirty textswritten without permission and unafraid of disappointmentaccompany this journey. They do not explain, nor justify. They interrogate. They dismantle comfortable narratives. They expose award-winning fictions. They mock ego and complacency. They celebrate doubt as a design method. This book is a construction log, but also a testimony of unrest. A cartography of what we have done and, more importantly, what we are no longer willing to do. Between drawings and words, the reader will find architecture. But they will also find silence, rage, irony, beauty and commitment. Because here, architecture is built twice: once in matter, and once in consciousness. though the latter rarely pays, rarely gets published, and almost never wins awards.…
