Octavo. 63 (1)pp. Original heavy cardboard white wraps with black lettering on cover and spine, with color photo-illustrated stiff dustjacket in slightly reduced size, with black lettering on spine, in printed white slip cover. "These [photographic] works have one thing in common: they are based on film stills which the artist has selected after painstaking searches with a VCR or film viewer and then photographed and enlarged. Within a given corpus (early films or trailers, for example), he will locate and capture a fragment, or sometimes two, which he will extract in function of a specific project. What then are the criteria of this special form of freeze frame? In the Excédents (Surpluses) series, they are black images, frames which were used for subtitles or quite simply added during the restoration of the film." Illustrated with striking color and b/w photographs from various series throughout. Slip cover slightly rubbed, else in fine condition.

Softcover. Zustand: Fine condition. Limited edition. 29/50. Octavo. 63 (1)pp. Original stiff white wraps with black lettering on cover, stiff stiff photo-illustrated dustjacket in color, housed in printed and hand-numbered white slipcase. Laid in original color print (7 1/2 x 6") signed by Fréger and numbered on verso. Referencing Leonardo Sciascia on the painter Antonello da Messina Philippe Abraizar states: "The contemporaries of that Sicilian painter have such a presence in his paintings that they invite one to look for a corresponding model in real life since "order, knowledge, and judgment cannot exist without similarities." That is the game that Charles Fréger's four series, Water-polo, Pattes blanches, Miss, and Notre-Dame, are poised for. The artist brings a new way of looking at comparable and differentiating traits, at what bonds together and what breaks apart." Illustrated with thirty-five striking full page color portraits, plus thumbnail photographs for each series. With exhibition history at rear. Text in French, English and German.
