8 x 5 in., ff. 9; each page with a header illustration, commentary, and text; stab stitched in printed paper wrappers; cheaply produced, with blurring and fading of the impression throughout, at some points almost to invisibility, but condition wise clean, sound and fine. The three-character classic was a educational text attributed to Wang Yinglin (12231296) or Ou Shizu (12341324), which served both as an elementary reader and an introduction to Confucianism for young children. It was popular and widely used up to the Republican era. This edition was produced by an early 20th century house, Guang Yi Shu Ju, which was known mostly for its cheapness, both in the price of its books and in their production quality.
