Full morocco, VG. unpaginated but approx 1300pp, title page to each part, all edges gilt, functioning brass clasp, leather worn to the edges, spine with raised bands & in gilt 'Church Services', occasional mild foxing, the first 20pp of the Common Prayer curiously 'grubby' as if having been lightly buffed with shoe polish with legibility unaffected, an attractive copy. Common Prayer is smallpica 16mo, rest Longprimer 16mo. Atrtractively typeset & bound Church Service volume. 825 grams.

Full roan leather, VG. both volumes unpaginated but approx 650pp, all edges gilt, in an attractive matching brown roan leather travelling case with hinged lid, extremities of the rasised bands a little rubbed from sliding into the case, corners bumped, , bottom of the case rather worn with some leather loss, the first 20 or so page of the Common Prayer darkened as if they have come into contact with grease/fat, an attactive little set. Diamond 48 edition. A small ( each volume is approx 3.5 inches tall & 2 inches wide , the pair together 1.5 inches thick ) liturgical & devotional set, nicely typset in a miniscule font. 225 grams.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. TWO INDIVIDUAL VOLUMES each 12x7cm. on India paper and together 5cm in depth. Bound in blind-stamped decorative black morocco with gilt titles to the spines. The Psalms have a separate title-page also dated 1841. All edges gilt and within a slip-case of black leather over card for ease of carriage. Each has an owner's inscription "Eliza Smith February 23rd 1842" in ink on the front free end-paper. End-papers in cream. The contents are clean and very good for their age. A very nice example of early Victorian Anglicanism. UNCOMMON.

Two works bound in in one. 16mo (but described as "Brevier 32mo" on the title page, binding measures 15 x 10 cm). Publisher's brown limp full morocco with blind rules and gilt lettering, all edges gilt, ownership inscription dated 1873 to the head of the first title page. A little light wear to the extremities, foxing to the front of the volume, else very good. Printed on india paper.

9 cm. [3.7 x 2.25 inches]. 2 volumes. 16mo. [not paginated]. Original full very dark maroon gilt-stamped morocco, all edges gilt, gilt inner dentelles, cream endsheets. Both volumes are within a maroon full-leather slipcase with draw-string. A note suggests the box is later made, however the same note states that the fore-edge paintings are early and they are clearly not early. All-in-all a handsome set very nicely preserved. Fine. With two fore-edge paintings, called "Village Church scenes". The bookseller's note referencing this item suggests that these fore-edge paintings were from 1844. This supports buyers thinking that an item is something which it isn't â" a huge problem with fore-edge painted books. What is their true history and how does one know it? It is natural to ask what evidence is there for taking a position on an item like this. The fore-edge paintings offered here are likely dated to the 1990s. These are not 19th century images. / What do you suppose is far more likely to be true: that an item in front of you is new or that it is old? If it is 'new' then how do you know? What if it is old? Be aware that a true fore-edge painted specimen of any early date, say 1780 or 1802 â" is quite rare â" especially when compared to the overwhelming number of 20th century specimens and especially specimens that are fresh â" new â" not even as old as the internet! What is the evidence? It is often thought that early provenance implies that a book has a fore-edge painting when it is a thing inscribed to a lover, perhaps, a bride, or a close friend. Some fore-edge paintings have been made and inscribed thus, but they are very rare. What is common is an item that is new. / A charming piece as its condition, including the case, are perfectly kept and clean. Sold by Harrington's with their cost-marks. [c340/081].

Usual age browning to pages not affecting text or plates. Minor rippling to pages. Lightly foxed throughout. Ferdinando Warner (1703-1768) was a celebrated Irish preacher, historian and multifarious author. Illustrated with three full page engravings. Originally this edition was published with four plates. Most likely the one missing here is the frontispiece. Binding in poor, interior in very good condition.
