Additionally, important research and development projects are worked on at the center: among the software packages developed are the MPI correctness checker Marmot, the OpenMP validation suite and the M- implementations PACX-MPI and Open MPI. All of these software packages are - ing extended in the context of German and European community research projects, such as ParMA, the InterActive European Grid (I2G) project and the German C- laborative Research Center (Sonderforschungsbereich 716). In 1998 the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Association) recommended to install an additional Federal High Performance Computer followed by the one in Stuttgart. In January 1999 the Wissenschaftsrat (German Science Council) decided that the Leibniz Rechenzentrum (Computing Center) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich should run the second Federal High-Performance Computer in Ger many. The investment cost of this Hochstleistungsrechner in Bayern (HLRB) was borne by the Federal Government of Germany and the Free State of Bavaria whereas the operating cost was at the expense of the Bavarian Gov ernment only. The operation of the HLRB is organized in combination with the - Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences as the operating authority of the HLRB - Steering Committee of the HLRB - Competence Network for Technical/Scientific High-Performance Comp- ing in Bavaria (KONWIHR). In 2000 a Hitachi SR8000-Fl was installed. It was the first Teraflops Com puter in Germany and reached a peak performance of two Teraflops after an extension at the end of 2001. The goal of HLRB is to provide computer facil ities necessary to solve challenging scientific and technological problems that cannot be solved on big servers but require large (storage) high-performance (very fast) computers and efficient software.…

The workshop is an annual international forum for leading research groups to present their current research activities and the latest results, covering languages, compiler techniques, r- time environments, and compiler-related performance evaluation for parallel and high-performance computing. Eighty-six researchers from Canada, France, Japan, Korea, P. R. China, Spain, Taiwan and the United States attended the workshop. A new feature of LCPC 2004 was its mini-workshop on Research-Compiler Infrastructures. Representatives from four projects, namely Cetus, LLVM, ORC and Trimaran, gavea 90-minute long presentation each. In addition, 29 research papers were presented at the workshop. These papers were reviewed by the p- gram committee. External reviewers were used as needed. The authors received additional comments during the workshop. The revisions after the workshop are now assembled into these nal proceedings. ISHPC-VI, HiWEP2005 and APC2005 were held in Nara, Japan during September 7-9, 2005. Fifty-eight papers from 11 countries were submitted to ISHPC-VI. After the reviews of the submitted papers, the ISHPC-VI Program Committee selected 15 regular (12-page) papers for oral presentation. In ad- tion, several other papers with favorable reviews were recommended for poster presentation, and 14 short (8-page) papers were also selected. Twenty-eight papers out of 29 ISHPC-VI papers are contained in the post-proceedings. Hi- WEP2005 and APC2005 received eight and ten submissions, with six and eight papers being accepted for oral presentation after reviews, respectively. All the HiWEP2005 and APC2005 papers are included in the post-proceedings. ALPS2006 was held in Cairns, Australia on July 1, 2006 in conjunction with the ACM 20th International Conference on Supercomputing.
