Noel Paton and also featuring some additional plates of historical Shakespearian interest, such as his home and statue etc. Corners slightly worn.

Publishers' original full dark green morocco over thick boards, spines with raised bands and stamped in blind and gilt, covers similarly stamped with large armorial designs placed within a bevelled oval deeply recessed at centre of each board, narrow strapwork framing above and below, gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, other edges uncut. Illustrated with 23 photogravure plates after Sir J. Noel Paton R.S.A. et al. Occasional light foxing mainly to versos of some of the plates, generally a handsome set. A facsimile of the First Folio text, this a "Special Edition" with India-proof impressions of the plates and in the deluxe binding. "The publisher of the "NATIONAL SHAKESPEARE" has.undertaken the task of reproducing this valuable work in a manner which he hopes may be found worthy of England's National Poet, as well as of the taste and art of the present day. Edited by Herbert Farjeon. Designed by Francis Meynell. Set in Monotype Fournier. Some variation in the colour of the bindings between volumes. A few small scuffs and marks but only slight wear. Contents clean and unmarked. An attractive set.

Limited edition. Seven volumes. Original full tan niger morocco by A. W. Bain, upper and lower boards and spine ends double ruled in gilt with tiny corner pieces. Five raised bands and titles in gilt to the spine. Single gilt ruled turn ins. Top edge gilt over red. Designed by Francis Meynell, set in Monotype Fournier and printed by the Cambridge University Press on Pannekoek mould-made paper. No. 1385. An excellent set, the bindings square and firm with some natural patina to the morocco and darkening of the spines. The contents, with the small green morocco bookplate of B.V.R. Overbury to the top of the front pastedown of each volume and minor toning to the page edges of the prelims, are otherwise clean and bright throughout. Limited to 1600 copies of which 1050 were for the UK market and 550 for the US. This set numbered 171 to the limitation page of volume I. One of 1,600 sets printed at Cambridge University Press in Monotype Fournier (with the capitals reduced in size) on specially watermarked Pannekoek paper. Full tan niger morocco with gilt spine titling, boards decorated with double gilt rules, all edges uncut, gilt tops. Vols. I & II quite severely waterstained at the foot of the spines, III-IV much less so, V-VII. Internally, a very good set. Tall 8vo. Marbled hardback covers with gilt to brown cloth spine, with the original slipcase, and original glassine wrappers. In very good near fine condition. Original glassine wrappers are a little nicked on edges, small loss lower end of volume one spine. Slipcase a little rubbed and sunned on edges. Inside very clean and tight copies. 4 vols. Half title headpieces and dedication in woodcut by R.Stone. Published and dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Coronation.
