Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Fifteen black photo pages measuring 11" x 12.5". Contains 102 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring 3.5" x 4.5" with captions and some hand-colored items. Near fine photographs. A photo album titled "Winter Trip in the Packard Eight February 3, 1931 - March 19, 1931." The first page states that they traveled ten thousand miles in the car and visited "Florida, New Orleans, Carlsbad Cavern, Death Valley, the Petrified Forest, and the Grand Canyon." The photos begin in St. Augustine, Florida where they stayed at the Hotel Ponce de Leon. Here they visited an alligator farm which is seen here in a photo with alligators as far as the eye can see and they took a drive on Daytona Beach. They also went to Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach where they photographs the palm trees and ocean scenes. Following this they went to Miami which they dubbed "a younger Venice." They photographed the "island retreats of Miami Beach" and a view of the city itself as well as a national diving competition. By February 17th they were in the in the Everglades where they photographed foliage and animal life including flamingos which are seen here in a hand colored photo captioned "the flamingos have a great sense of balance." After leaving Florida they drove on the New Orleans where they stayed in the Vieux Carré (French Quarter) and photographed local shops and the architecture of the city. Once in Arizona they visited the Coolidge Dam and photographed "the Giant Sahara Cactus." They traveled on the Apache trail and photographed their car near the Painted Hills. From there they traveled into Phoenix where they visited Cactus National Monument and photographed "the Arizona landscape." Next on the itinerary was Death Valley which reads, "from a vantage point of 6,000 feet above sea level we look to the floor of Death Valley 310 feet below sea level." The final leg they returned to Arizona to visit the Grand Canyon which includes photos of a Pablo house and numerous landscape snapshots, many of which are hand-colored. The final photograph shows their car parked back in front of their house with the caption, "and then we came home, March 19, 1931."
