Tess & Jude have small tear head of spine. Woodlands & Desperate Remedies spines a little lightened. Under three Greenwood Tree has a few small marks lower spine. Changed man boards a a little patchy on boards. Some very faint spotting. Untrimmed pages with gilt top edges. Casterbridge has small inscription on front endpaper. Each volume has a frontispiece with tissue guard, and each novel has an etching by H Macbeth-Raeburn (Tess has 2 etchings) and a map of Wessex. Tess has a facsimile signature of Hardy. This is an important edition. The text of every novel was thoroughly and carefully revised, etc. In addition Hardy prepared a special preface for each volume. "The Well-Beloved" (Osgood.1897) and "A Changed Man"(Macmillan 1913) were published in matching format to the other 16 vols.and count as Vols.XVII and XVIII of the Wessex Novels. The first 6 volumes published in 1895. This is the first uniform edition with 17 of 18 novels published between 1895 to 1897 and 2 slightly later volumes of poetry in very good to near fine condition; A Changed Man is a later 1913 edition published by Macmillan, but uniform with the others.…
