Wolfgang Helbig (1839-1915) from Dresden was a classical archaeologist, who lived and worked mainly in Rome as a private scholar, however member of the German Archaeological Institute since 1862. He is remembered mainly for his extensive scientific studies concerning the wall paintings of Pompeii, on which his main works are this book and ?Untersuchungen über die Campanische Wandmalerei? He wrote a very popular handbook for the ancient art in Rome, ?Führer durch die öffentlichen Sammlungen klassischer Altertümer in Rom? He also acted as an art dealer, and bought numerous works of art for the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen. Hardcover / Hardback.
