In den WarenkorbText in three columns. A single issue, pp129-144, sewn as issued in orig. brown printed wrappers. Exceptionally well-preserved in custom-made double slip-case. 'Mrs. Joseph Porter' was the very first of Dickens's stories to be printed in America, appearing in the March issue of The Albion. Here it is printed without acknowledgement or permission, identified only as 'from the London Monthly Magazine'. Though not the first American edition, this does, nevertheless, represent a very early pirated example of Dickens in America, in first rate condition. Its earliest appearance in book form was as the thirteenth chapter in Volume II of the first series of Sketches By Boz (1836).

Zustand: Good. *Price HAS BEEN REDUCED by 10% until Monday, May 11 (weekend SALE item)* the supplement section Journal of Belles Lettres only; the designation of which issue of the main work is being supplemented is very irregular and confusing and sequence is most easily determined by referring to the whole numbers that are found inconspicuously in the lower left corner of the first page of each issue; [Part 1], Whole Numbers 1-6, 8-52 (lacking number 7 which would have supplemented New Series Volume 2, Number 3), June 18, 1833 (the first two issues are prospectuses and the first is undated)-June 24, 1834; Part II, Whole Numbers 1-26, July 1, 1834-December 23, 1834; a run of the first seventy eight issues lacking only one number, most are four to eight pages, all quarto, all in one binding of marbled paper covered boards with red calf spine and corners; binding very worn, portions of text browned but not fragile, one leaf has tear at top margin, one leaf cut short with loss of words in last line, occasional age staining, but still a better survival than would be expected; the Journal of Belles Lettres was composed mainly of book reviews culled from various British periodical sources. - If you are reading this, this item is actually (physically) in our stock and ready for shipment once ordered.
