Paperback. Zustand: Good. We are too often rich in information and poor in wisdom. And when we encounter life's decisions, big and small, we engage the information available through the lens of our personality. How does your personality type help and hinder your ability to make wise decisions? The Enneagram of Discernment: The Way of Vocation, Wisdom, and Practice breaks new ground in the enneagram field, introducing Dr. Drew Moser's innovative approach to exploring the enneagram as a tool to discover calling, cultivate wisdom, and develop habits that help you make wise decisions, whether they be important or mundane. This is not your ordinary enneagram book. Weaving theology, spirituality, neuroscience, and psychology, Dr. Moser introduces you to The Way of Discernment: a journey of 9 key questions each of us must consider when faced with a decision. Each of these 9 questions are groups into three triads: The Vocation Triad, The Wisdom Triad, and The Practice Triad.…

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Now: Christopher Metcalfe returns to his family home in Kent after the death of his standoffish father. Sorting through a box of memorabilia from his days at boarding school, Chris finds himself confronted by a photograph and a face that has haunted him for thirty years. Then: At gloomy Blandford House, a fifteen-year old Chris endures the dull lessons, rigid schedules, and thrashing by the older prefects. And then a most extraordinary thing happens: he is seduced by the charismatic Stephen Walker, a prefect two years older, who offers Chris the affection and attention he craves. Alone, approaching the age of fifty, Christopher has never been able to forget his first love but has long wondered what happened to Stephen when the boy graduated Blandford. They had planned to runaway to Spain.and never did. Delicately revealing the layers of both past and present as it alternates between now and then, William Corlett's moving debut novel illuminates the vacuity of Christopher's emotional life with subtle power and poignancy, exploring a multitude of themes in its exposition of a gay man's search for identity.…

Paperback. Zustand: Good. Foreword by Samuel L. Hill Richard T. Hughes's highly praised book on the relationship between Christian faith and secular learning -- originally titled How Christian Faith Can Sustain the Life of the Mind -- is now available in this revised and expanded edition, which speaks more directly to the subject of vocation. In a substantial new preface Hughes recounts his own vocational journey, telling how he drew on Christian theology to discover his talents and how best to use them. Another new chapter explores the vocation of Christian colleges and universities, including the purposes and goals of church-related education. Drawing from the Catholic, Reformed, Lutheran, and Anabaptist traditions, Hughes shows how the Christian scholar can embrace paradox rather than dogmatism. His reflections provide a compelling argument that faith, properly pursued, nourishes the openness and curiosity that make a life of the mind possible. …

Hardback. Zustand: Good. NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER * An insightful look into the mind of a master storyteller--and a unique look at the craft of writing from the beloved and best-selling author of 1Q84, Norwegian Wood, and What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. "Murakami is like a magician who explains what he's doing as he performs the trick and still makes you believe he has supernatural powers" --New York Times Book Review A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK: Esquire, Vulture, LitHub, New York Observer Aspiring writers and readers who have long wondered where the mysterious novelist gets his ideas and what inspires his strangely surreal worlds will be fascinated by this engaging book from the internationally best-selling author. Haruki Murakami now shares with readers his thoughts on the role of the novel in our society; his own origins as a writer; and his musings on the sparks of creativity that inspire other writers, artists, and musicians. Here are the personal details of a life devoted to craft: the initial moment at a Yakult Swallows baseball game, when he suddenly knew he could write a novel; the importance of memory, what he calls a writer's "mental chest of drawers"; the necessity of loneliness, patience, and his daily running routine; the seminal role a carrier pigeon played in his career and more. "What I want to say is that in a certain sense, while the novelist is creating a novel, he is simultaneously being created by the novel as well." --Haruki Murakami. …

Paperback. Zustand: Fair. The concept of vocation is often at the heart of religious experience, yet suprisingly few serious theological studies have been written about it. The Way of Life seeks to remedy this oversight and to outline a sane alternative to the more questionable versions of the idea of vocation found at the popular level. Beginning with the Bible, and drawing on theological sources both Protestant and Catholic, Gary Badcock develops a constructive theology of Christian vocation, rescuing it from both secular and sacred distortions. Badcock argues that Christian vocation is essentially the call to love God and neighbor. Through a consideration of several theologians, including in particular Martin Luther and Hans Urs von Balthasar, Badcock links this theme to another ruling idea of Christian spirituality - discipleship in the way of the cross. Viewed theologically, Christian vocation finally comes to be seen as a sharing in the reconciling mission of Jesus. Vocation should be seen as a way of life - indeed, as the way of life, the way which follows Jesus himself. A Christian's vocation is not, therefore, to be confused with with an occupation. Even though work itself is of great significance, vocation is fundamentally less about what one does than about what one is. For those struggling to discover a proper sense of vocation in a society obsessed with prestige and financial gain, this volume provides a solid, readable, and theologically informed account of what it truly means to be called of God.…

Paperback. Zustand: Good. In the wise and often witty Forgetting Ourselves on Purpose, Brian Mahan considers the question of how it is possible to create a meaningful spiritual life while living in a culture that measures us by what we have rather than who we are. Drawing on nearly two decades of teaching experience. Brian Mahan shares stories of personal struggle and triumph that demonstrate how those who seek meaning and purpose have recalimed their authentic selves by resolving the inevitable tension between personal ambition and spiritual vibrancy.…

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Work can be a daily grind?a hard, monotonous set of thankless tasks. In the midst of the ongoing toil, many are plagued by a lack of purpose, confused as to what to do and who to become. And while some of our vocations may seem more overtly meaningful than others?, the truth is that most of us work because we have to. It is a means to an end?survival. Given the enormous amount of time each of us spends working, we would do well to understand our callings and how God works through them. Here culture expert Gene Veith gives us more than a simple understanding of work?more than a catchy slogan to ?do all things for the glory of God.? He outlines a spiritual framework for answering questions such as: What does it mean to be a Christian businessperson or a Christian artist or a Christian lawyer, scientist, construction worker or whatever? How can I know what I am supposed to do with my life? What does it mean to raise a Christian family? And what if I don?t have kids? Unpacking the Bible?s teaching on work, Veith helps us to see the meaning in our vocations, the force behind our ethics, and the transformative presence of God in our everyday, ordinary lives.…

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Illuminating essays by passionate and well-recognized American Catholic intellectuals on the interaction between faith and work. Divided into four parts--Five Opportunities, Marks of the Faith, Spiritualities, Discipleship and Practices--As Leaven in the World visions Catholicism as a cultural force that shapes morality, the arts, creativity, cultural conversation, social justice, spirituality, and vocation. And it invites educational leaders and intellectuals to take seriously their vocation--indeed, their holy work--of teaching others how to see, listen, hear, understand, and engage the world from a Catholic perspective.…
