"The Colored Museum" riffs on black stereotypes through the presentation of eleven "exhibits." "Spunk" sets Hurston's stories to blues rhythms, creating "a rich folk tapestry of African-American rural life and urban life earlier in [the 20th] century." Accompanying the text of the latter play are both the music and lyrics for its songs.
