Verlag: Abingdon Works, Tyseley, 1931
Anbieter: Michael Treloar Booksellers ANZAAB/ILAB, Adelaide, SA, Australien
Zustand: Very Good. Tyseley, Abingdon Works, 1931. Octavo; a pictorial bifolium printed in blue and black; a few creases where folded; an excellent copy. The centrespread confidently asserts that the King Dick is the 'obvious answer to the "housewife's prayer". To do your work quick - you must use a "King Dick" . Install one now - electricity is entirely unnecessary'. It's hard to believe that this glorified carpet sweeper, with its mechanically-driven suction fan, never caught on. This copy is over-printed with the Australian price (a steal at '£5-15-0 Plus Tax'), and has the inkstamp of the local distributor (Hannan Bros Ltd, Flinders Street, Adelaide).
Verlag: E.E. Sutherland Medicine Co. Inc, Paducah, Kentucky, 1890
Anbieter: Bartleby's Books, ABAA, Chevy Chase, MD, USA
Broadside. 28 x 12.5 cm. About 40 lines of text mostly testimonials for Sutherland's Eagle Eye Salve. An American Eagle sits below the title holding a banner in its beak with the product's name. Toning to paper, small nick to right margin, not affecting text, a very good copy. Sutherland's was best known for its Dr. Bell's Pine Tar Honey remedy of which an advertisment is noted.

Broadside. 25 x 15 cm. Song sheet, words only, decorative border. "(the KNOW NOTHINGS were founded in NY STATE in 1849 as a political & anti-Catholic secret society, which grew rapidly into a natl. org. in 1856 its Pres. candidate was Millard Fillmore.) 'They beat both Whigs & Democrats, wherever they may go, sir, and if you ask them anything they will answer, I don't know sir.' This is a parody, comparing the mean and ladies of Phila. with the KNOW NOTHINGS. (gd). ARE YOU READING THE DESCRIPTIONS VERY CAREFULLY???" [Note: All of the description you've just read is off a type written slip (including the last line in capitals) which accompanied the broadside. I recognized it as Harold Nestler's work. He was a bookdealer in the 1950s till the 2000s, also a milkman and postman, wrote a lovely memoir of those who worked the ground level in the trade before the internet. I couldn't really change a thing, moved the text around a bit, differences of typewriters to computer databases.].
Verlag: Cotter, Printer, Omaha [NE], 1889
Anbieter: Bartleby's Books, ABAA, Chevy Chase, MD, USA
Broadside, printed on golden yellow silk. 23 x 11 cm. Edges frayed, particularly the top margin, affecting a few letters of text. M'lle Rhea portrays Beatrice and William Harris is Benedick. Fifteen other cast members are named. The broadside assures the audience that the costumes, arms and equipment are all "strictly in accordance with the period -- the middle of the 16th century -- and are of the handsomest designs and materials, for Worth and Alexandre, of Paris. M'lle Rhea (1844-1899), whose real name was Hortense-Berbe Loret was born in Belgium and began her stage career in Paris in the 1870s. By 1881 she was performing first in England and then, having taught herself English, she spent most of the rest of her life working in the United States. She was known for her performances of Shakespeare, Sheridan, and Dumas. Although she appeared on the stage in New York City, M'lle Rhea's "most pronounced suddesses were won in 'the provinces,' where she enjoyed a vogue that lasted for many years." [see her obituary in the New York Times, May 23, 1899]. The printer of this broadside, Thomas H. Cotter, had set up his job printing office in Omaha in 1881 and was well known in the business community there. No listings found on OCLC for this broadside, although there are other theater programs found for her performances in Boston, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, etc.
