Profusely illustrated with a steel engraving and wood engravings. Three maps, two of which are folding. Inner hinges and spine tips neatly repaired, cloth with some wear, else this is a very good copy. An account of the work on the telegraph lines from British India to Turkish Arabia ultimately reaching London via Munich, Vienna, Constantinople, and Baghdad. .

First and last leaves browned, some light even browning contents but generally very good. Sir Frederic John Goldsmid was Chief Director of Government Indo-European Telegraph between 1865 and 1870. This detailed and engaging account of the laying of the Persian Gulf Cables includes details of both the technical and political difficulties encountered.
