Profusely illustrated with a steel engraving and wood engravings. Three maps, two of which are folding. Inner hinges and spine tips neatly repaired, cloth with some wear, else this is a very good copy. An account of the work on the telegraph lines from British India to Turkish Arabia ultimately reaching London via Munich, Vienna, Constantinople, and Baghdad. .

Detailed colour folding map, black and white folding map and 1 full page black and white map, 1 portrait steel engraving, 44 black and white wood engravings of which 4 are full page, xiv + 673pp + [2] + 60 page publisher's catalogue at rear, many leaves unopened, a few leaves little chipped at margins. Recased, backstrip with a little loss laid down on modern spine, modern endpapers. Original pictorial green cloth boards marked in two places, rubbed and a worn with loss at corners and at edges. First and last leaves browned, some light even browning contents but generally very good. Sir Frederic John Goldsmid was Chief Director of Government Indo-European Telegraph between 1865 and 1870.
