Two exhibition invitations and a catalog of Paul Gauguin's show from the collection of Emil Szittya. This collection includes a catalog of Paul Gauguin's 1931 exhibition, held in Le Portique, Paris, with a list of works exhibited and two invitations, one to the exhibition of the avant-garde artist, Jean Pougny and another to Fernand Léger's show. All three are marked with the collection stamp of Emil Szittya (Émile, or Emile Lesitt, Emil Szytia, Oscar Ray, Karl Stammer, Verista; 18861964), a Hungarian-born artist. At the age of fourteen he started his wandering around Europe, getting to know some of the most influential avant-garde artists of the time, such as Lajos Kassák, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Henri Rousseau, Tristan Tzara, Hans Richter, Chaim Soutine and Blaise Cendrars with whom they published the anarchist magazine "Les hommes nouveaux". In 1915 in Zürich he got acquainted with the leaders of the communist movement, Lenin and Trotsky. He published several books on artists and numerous articles and essays in various art magazines. His expressionist paintings were exhibited mostly posthumously. . Slightly yellowed due to aging. Otherwise in fine condition.
